Marvel’s “Champions” Series Rumored to Be in Early Development With Familiar Young Heroes Returning

Even though The Marvels didn’t do too well at the box office, it seems like it still helped set up something big for the future of the MCU, a younger superhero team. Fans have been talking about the Young Avengers for a while now, and while Marvel hasn’t officially confirmed anything, new updates suggest the project is moving forward, just under a new name.

Right after The Marvels came out, people started speculating that Marvel was working on a Young Avengers project. That turned out to be partly true, but now it’s going by a different title, Champions. According to IMDb, the title has returned to their listings with a description that says: “After a devastating event, mysterious teen heroes emerge calling themselves the Young Avengers. But who are these young vigilantes, and what gives them the right to use that name?”

This description seems to confirm that the project is actually a TV show and that Marvel has rebranded it from Young Avengers to Champions. The reason for the change, according to reports, is that some of the original cast might not be considered “young” anymore.

Marvel also apparently felt that the new name would open the door to more storytelling opportunities and make the team feel fresh and different, especially after the mixed reactions to The Marvels.

A few actors have already been linked to the show. Hailee Steinfeld is expected to return as Kate Bishop, Kathryn Newton as Cassie Lang, and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan. These three characters have already made appearances in past MCU films and shows, and it looks like Marvel wants them to take center stage in this new series.

So far, there’s no release date, and production hasn’t started yet. But according to a recent AMA with scooper Alex Perez, the show is definitely in development. When asked if the show already has a writer and a showrunner — specifically Rachna Fruchbom, as reported by Nexus Point News, Perez said, “Nexus Point News is a great new outlet and I think their report should be verified either this year or the next one. The show itself is still in the early stages, so we’ll have to wait and see how it develops.”

Perez also gave some hints about other characters who might show up. When asked about America Chavez and how she could be involved in the Champions show or future MCU stories, he responded, “There are star-shaped holes in the space-time continuum.” It’s not much, but it’s clearly a reference to her powers and suggests she’ll play a role in things to come.

Another fan asked about Hulkling and whether he might show up during Secret Wars. Perez replied, “I don’t think it will be for Secret Wars. They want to save Teddy as one of the pillars of the upcoming cosmic saga they got going on.” So it sounds like Hulkling could still be on the way, just not quite yet.

At this point, there’s still a lot we don’t know about Champions, but it’s clear that Marvel is laying the foundation for something big with its younger heroes. With names like Kate Bishop, Kamala Khan, and Cassie Lang already attached, fans have a good reason to keep watching for updates. It might be a while before Marvel makes anything official, but things are definitely moving behind the scenes.
