Marvel’s ‘Ironheart’ Series to Share ‘Ms. Marvel’ Tone and Confirm Riri Williams as Bisexual
In July 2018, a script for a film featuring the Marvel Comics character Riri Williams/Ironheart, written by Jada Rodriguez, was included on The Black List, but the film was never produced. In December 2020, Marvel Studios announced the development of an ‘Ironheart’ series for Disney+.
Now, three years after Riri’s first appearance, the wait is almost over, as the series is scheduled to be released in 2025.
Not much is known about the show beyond what audiences saw in an exclusive trailer presented at D23.
The footage begins with a scene from ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,’ where Dominique Thorne makes her debut as Riri Williams. The story then transitions to Riri’s life after her internship abroad, where she feels “stuck.” Before being expelled from MIT, Riri expressed her desire to build something undeniable.
She also meets Parker Robbins, aka The Hood (played by Anthony Ramos), who tempts her with the idea that achieving greatness often requires morally questionable choices, asking if she’s “in or out.”
The show’s narrative is described as a blend of magic and technology, with various vendettas coming to life.
Dominique Thorne stars as Riri Williams/Ironheart, a genius inventor and MIT student who creates a suit to rival Iron Man’s. Anthony Ramos plays Parker Robbins/The Hood, a complex ally of Riri who practices dark arts and magic.
The cast includes Alden Ehrenreich as Joe McGillicuddy, Lyric Ross as Riri’s best friend Natalie, and Anji White as Riri’s mother. Other notable actors, including Shea Couleé, Jim Rash (reprising his role as the Dean of MIT), and Sacha Baron Cohen, will appear in undisclosed roles.
Currently, there isn’t much official news, but a leaker profile on X, Marvel Updates, which has a mixed track record, recently revealed new information.
According to the leaker, ‘Ironheart’ will share the same overall tone as MCU’s hit series ‘Ms. Marvel.’ The show will confirm Riri Williams as bisexual. Allegedly, the first screenings for the show received positive feedback, with episodes averaging around 50 minutes in length.
There isn’t much more to say about these rumors since they can’t be confirmed until the show is released. However, regarding the tone and Riri’s sexuality, it seems likely, especially given the focus on queer representation in the MCU with the release of ‘Agatha All Along.’
As for the test screenings, we can’t confirm or deny those reports, but since the show has been in development for a while, it’s very possible that it has been refined significantly.
