Method dressing has become one of the most fun parts of any big press tour, and McKenna Grace has fully committed to it for ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’. The actress plays Maysilee Donner, a District 12 tribute in the 50th Hunger Games, and her red carpet looks have consistently paid tribute to the franchise.

The prequel, directed by Francis Lawrence, is set 24 years before the original film and follows Joseph Zada’s young Haymitch Abernathy. It opens in theaters on November 20, and the cast has been building excitement with a string of standout appearances.

Grace’s latest look may be her most ambitious yet. At the UK fan screening at Westfield London on October 28, she wore an Almée Couture gown that essentially turned the Quarter Quell arena into wearable art.

The fitted, floor-length gown featured detailed beadwork in shades of blue and green, forming a mosaic of swirling skies, purple mountains and rolling fields. A grassy section was said to suggest the Cornucopia, echoing the scenery from the film’s promotional artwork.

The most eye-catching part was the skirt. 3-dimensional purple flowers spilled down the gown, with long green vines trailing to the floor over a sheer, shimmering champagne train.

The design closely mirrors the landscape seen in the film’s official poster. Rather than simply borrowing the movie’s colors, the gown recreated its arena setting in a way fans immediately recognized.

Grace was styled by Molly Dickson, who has helped shape her character-driven looks throughout the press tour. The result felt deliberate and thoughtful, connecting the outfit directly to her character’s story.

The reaction online was overwhelmingly positive. One fan on X called the look “a bold move,” while another praised it as “deliberate, not costume.” On Reddit, one commenter jokingly described the gown’s resemblance to the deadly arena as “diabolical.” Another said it was one of the most beautiful dresses they had ever seen.

The look also sparked friendly debate with co-star Elle Fanning’s Effie-inspired ballerina headpiece, with fans comparing the 2 standout outfits from the same night. This wasn’t the first time Grace honored the franchise through fashion. At an event at the Musée Rodin in Paris on October 6, she wore an archival Monique Lhuillier dress that outlets linked to Katniss Everdeen’s white wedding gown from ‘Catching Fire’.

At the Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles on October 17, she chose a custom red Mônot gown, a nod to the red Calvin Klein dress Jennifer Lawrence wore to the 2011 Academy Awards. For her appearance on the ‘Today’ show on October 26, she wore Betsey Johnson in a look that recalled Rue’s outfit from the original film.

Each outfit has been a carefully chosen reference, rewarding longtime fans who spot the connections. Grace wasn’t the only star making a statement at the UK screening. Whitney Peak, who plays Lenore Dove Baird, wore Chanel couture, and Glenn Close appeared in Simone Rocha.

With early-access screenings scheduled for November 18 and early reactions calling the film one of the franchise’s best, the excitement is only growing. If Grace keeps up this level of creativity, fans can look forward to even more arena-worthy fashion before release day.
