Marvel Cinematic Universe finished its Phase 3, which concluded the Infinity Saga, back in 2019. In July 2019, Phase 4 was officially announced, opening up a new chapter of the franchise. Phase 4 is unique in the MCU’s canon because it was the first Phase that tangled both movie and TV series, which made this whole franchise a bit harder, but as much as interesting to follow. Phase 4 kicked off in January 2021 with the TV series WandaVision, and since then we got five movies and six tv shows.
Although we’re pretty deep now into Phase 4, it wasn’t announced what will be its final project and when will Phase 5 will start. Marvel Cinematic Universe evidently has a long future, but this new saga will also be split into multiple Phases just like the Infinity Saga was before. President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige recently teased that the MCU is nearing the end of Phase 4, and he teases that more about this new saga will be revealed in the coming months. Check the full statement below:
“As we’re nearing the end of Phase 4, I think people will start to see where this next saga is going. I think there have been many clues already, that are at least apparent to me, of where this whole saga is going. But we’ll be a little more direct about that in the coming months, to set a plan, so audiences who want to see the bigger picture can see a tiny, tiny, tiny bit more of the roadmap.” — Kevin Feige for Total Film
Disney recently announced that the next D23 Expo event will be held from September 9 to 11 this year, and it is expected that new projects from Marvel, Star Wars, and other Disney-owned franchises will be revealed at the event. Currently, the last MCU project that has an official release date is The Marvels, which is set to be released in July 2023. After that, the future of the MCU is anyone’s guess, although it’s known that some movies that have no release dates yet are in development, including Blade, Deadpool 3, Fantastic Four, Captain America 4, etc.
The next MCU movie is Thor: Love and Thunder, which will hit theaters on July 8, 2022. The newest MCU series Ms. Marvel is currently ongoing and streaming at Disney+.
