MCU’s Adaptation of the New ‘Iron Man’ Story Could Lead to the Ultimate Team-Up Between Tony Stark and Scarlet Witch (With the Most Magical Armor Yet)

In October, a new era for Iron Man began, with a story by Spencer Ackerman and art by Julius Ohta that brings Iron Man back to his roots. In Upstate New York, Iron Man steps in when Roxxon enforces a factory lockout on Stark Unlimited workers.

After defeating the Roxxon forces, Tony Stark agrees to recognize the union’s demands. However, his armor malfunctions during a later battle, causing a crash that leaves him injured and hospitalized.

Once he recovers, Tony faces a corporate fight as A.I.M. and Roxxon try to take over Stark Unlimited and turn it into a weapons manufacturer. Tony learns that his armor malfunction was caused by magic, set in motion by Justine Hammer, who has created her own Iron Monger armor.

She reveals that she has teamed up with one of Tony’s old Avengers teammates and plans to use Stark’s technology for global domination. Tony vows to stop Roxxon and A.I.M. in a new battle, the Stark-Roxxon War.

As the Stark-Roxxon War rages on, Tony Stark builds a new Improvised Iron Man armor using parts from his damaged suits. To stop Roxxon and A.I.M. from taking his technology, he needs help dealing with a magical threat that nearly killed him twice. In Iron Man #2, it’s revealed that Dr. Druid, a former Avenger, is working with A.I.M.

Now, Tony calls in his teammate, the Scarlet Witch, for help. In Iron Man #4, Wanda is shown wearing Tony’s new armor.

The official synopsis states:

CRIMSON AVENGERS UNDER ATTACK! Desperate to regain the use of his vast array of armors, Iron Man enlists a fellow Avenger for a magical investigation. But what the Scarlet Witch discovers will plant a bomb in Tony’s life, and the question is WHEN, not IF, it will go off…and WHO will get caught in the blast. Stark family legacy, and guest stars galore make this an issue you can’t ignore!

Iron Man can no longer rely on his technology and needs magic to tackle his biggest challenges yet. This story opens up exciting possibilities for the MCU, even though both Tony Stark and Wanda Maximoff are currently thought to be dead, with Wanda having a better chance of returning.

In this case, Doctor Doom might take Iron Man’s place, as rumors suggest that Scarlet Witch and Doom will be connected in Doomsday, with some even hinting at a romantic link.

Maybe Doom could create a similar armor (or mask) for Scarlet Witch to show his loyalty to their shared cause, making her even more powerful.

Iron Man (2024) #4 will be released on January 22, 2025. Written by Spencer Ackerman, with art by Javier Pina and Rod Reis, and a cover by Yasmine Putri.
