More Spider-Man Spin-Offs Coming? New Projects Like ‘Spider-Noir’ Reportedly in the Works
The Spider-Man universe may be getting much bigger soon. A new update from the team behind Spider-Noir suggests that more projects are already in development, even if they have not been officially announced yet.
The information comes from Oren Uziel, who is working as co-showrunner on Spider-Noir. In an interview with SFX Magazine, he shared that there are other Spider-Man variant stories currently being worked on. He did not go into details about what those projects are, but he made it clear that more is coming.
“I’m focused on Spider-Noir, but I know there are others in the works,” Uziel said. “I’ve talked a bit to the people working on them and I think they are very exciting. They’re following a little bit of that same formula, that same idea of taking a genre and elevating it by putting a Spider-variant into it. It opens up a whole new world, and it’s just an extremely exciting opportunity.”
While Uziel did not confirm any names, there have already been talks about possible spin-offs. A Spider-Punk project has been mentioned before, with Daniel Kaluuya connected to it. There have also been rumors about a Spider-Gwen movie being developed by Sony. It is still unclear if these are the projects he was talking about.
Spider-Noir itself is taking a different direction compared to other Spider-Man stories. The show is set in a darker world and follows an older version of the character. Nicolas Cage plays the lead role as a private investigator who once lived as a superhero and may have to return to that life again.
The show is part of Sony’s wider Spider-Man universe, but Uziel explained that it stands on its own. He said the character is not exactly the same as past versions seen in comics or animated films.
“The character in the show is not the same as the character from both the comics and the animated movie,” he explained. “A big part of it was I have seen the high-school story of Peter Parker many times. It’s been done really well and it’s continuing to be done really well. And then Phil and Chris did the Miles Morales version. For me, it was a way to tell our own take.”
Spider-Noir will premiere in May. It will first release on MGM+ in the United States, before becoming available worldwide on Prime Video. The series will have eight episodes and will be available in both black-and-white and color versions.
Filming for the show took place in Los Angeles and ended earlier this year. The project has also brought in producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who previously worked on the Spider-Verse animated films.
With more projects possibly on the way, it looks like the idea of different Spider-Man versions is becoming a bigger focus for the studio. Each new story may explore a new setting, style, and version of the character.
