Netflix Casts ‘The Beast in Me’ & ‘Homeland’ Star as Lead in New Romantic Drama

Claire Danes has taken on a new leading role in a Netflix drama series called Lovesick, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The project comes from writer and showrunner Sarah Treem and has already been given a full series order after strong interest during development.

The series is based on the Israeli show The Best Worst Thing and is described as a modern romance story with a serious emotional core. It follows a doctor named Annika, played by Danes, who is a respected breast cancer surgeon. Her life changes when she is diagnosed with cancer herself while still working with patients.

At the same time, she meets Nate, a rising politician who becomes one of her patients. Their lives become closely connected as the story moves through medical struggles, personal relationships, and difficult life choices. The show also touches on themes like love, family, illness, and mortality.

Sarah Treem spoke about working with Danes and said she has wanted to collaborate with her for a long time. She explained that the story is deeply personal in tone and deals with major life questions. She also thanked Netflix for supporting the project and giving it a full series commitment.

Danes will not only star in the series but also serve as one of the executive producers. Other executive producers include Avi Nir and Keren Shahar from Keshet Studios, along with Peter Traugott. The series is being produced by Universal Television and Keshet.

This marks another Netflix project for Danes. She recently appeared in the thriller limited series The Beast in Me, which was released in November and also featured Matthew Rhys, Brittany Snow, and Natalie Morales.

Danes has been a well-known name in television for decades. She first gained attention in My So-Called Life in the 1990s and later became widely recognized for her award-winning role in Homeland, where she won multiple Emmys and Golden Globes.

Over the years, she has also appeared in many films and TV projects, building a long and varied career across drama, film, and stage work.

Lovesick is expected to continue development before its release date is announced.
