Inspired by the true story of a total fake! Netflix revealed the first official teaser for Inventing Anna, a limited series that is set to premiere on February 11 on the streaming service.

Who is Anna Delvey? That’s the question for which everyone wants an answer. 2-time Emmy winner Julia Garner, best known for the role of Ruth Langmore on Ozark TV show, is playing a convicted scammer Anna Delvey (real name Anna Sorokin) who pretended to be a wealthy heiress, but actually didn’t have a dime on her name. She managed to charm and/or manipulate many people, as well as banks and hotels to steal their money between 2013 and 2017. She was arrested in 2017, and in 2019 she was sentenced to 4 to 12 years in prison.

Real Anna Delvey was released from prison earlier this year. Netflix bought her life story to adapt it into a limited series, and Delvey used the money to pay back the restitution. Soon after her release from prison, Delvey was taken into the custody of ICE, where she remained to this day, awaiting deportation to Germany, where she’s from.

Shonda Rhimes, known for TV shows Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal, is a showrunner and a producer with her production company Shondaland. Inventing Anna limited series will consist of nine episodes. Also starring Anna Chlumsky, Laverne Cox, Katie Lowes, and Alexis Floyd, the series will debut on Netflix on February 11, 2022.
