Netflix is bringing back a classic TV show, Land of the Lost. The streaming giant has made a deal with Legendary Television to reboot the 1974 sci-fi adventure series created by Sid and Marty Krofft. This news comes from Deadline.

The project is still very early in development. Sid and Marty Krofft will be producing, along with Marty’s daughter, Deanna Krofft Pope, who is the COO of their company. They are currently looking for a writer to help bring the reboot to life. Neither Netflix nor Legendary Television have commented on the project yet.

The original Land of the Lost was about a father named Rick and his two kids who accidentally travel through a portal. They end up stuck in a strange world filled with dinosaurs, including a T-Rex they call Grumpy. They also meet creatures called Pakuni, who look like primates, and reptilian beings called Sleestak. One of the Pakuni, Cha-Ka, becomes their friend.

The show first aired on NBC on Saturday mornings from 1974 to 1976 and had a brief summer run on CBS in the mid-1980s. Spencer Milligan played Rick, while Wesley Eure and Kathy Coleman played his children, Will and Holly. The series used stop-motion animation for some of its creatures.

Even though the show only ran for a few seasons, it gained a loyal fan base and became a cult favorite. This popularity led to a 1991 remake that aired for two seasons on ABC and a 2009 movie starring Will Ferrell. Both the remake and the movie were produced by Sid and Marty Krofft.

Netflix has been bringing back other old favorites too. They are currently working on a new version of Little House on the Prairie and have already rebooted Lost in Space and One Day at a Time.

Legendary Television is busy with other projects as well. They are working on shows like Dune: Prophecy for HBO, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters for Apple TV+, and an animated Tomb Raider series for Netflix. They also have live-action Tomb Raider and Pacific Rim shows and a project called Girls and Their Horses with Nicole Kidman in development at Amazon.

According to Deadline, the Land of the Lost reboot is shaping up to be another exciting revival for fans of classic TV shows.
