Netflix’s ‘North of North’ Season 2 Release Schedule, Trailer, Plot and Cast
Netflix has announced that all eight episodes of the second season of ‘North of North’ will be available on Thursday, November 5. The Canadian comedy is heading back to Ice Cove just as winter closes in, and every episode will arrive at once.
The return of ‘North of North’ comes after a renewal and a long production run, and it brings new faces alongside most of the central ensemble. The series is Netflix’s first Canadian original, produced with CBC in partnership with APTN. Here is what is known about the release schedule, the trailer, the story and the cast.
Release Schedule and Trailer for the Second Season on Netflix
Netflix is releasing the full eight episode run in a single drop on Thursday, November 5. That differs from the staggered approach viewers might have expected after the first season, and it gives subscribers the option to watch the whole story in one sitting.
Canadian audiences were able to see the show earlier. The second season premiered in Canada on APTN+ and CBC in September, with a worldwide Netflix release, Canada included, following later in the fall. One report placed that Canadian debut on September 8.
For those who want a preview, Netflix has published an official trailer for the new season. New first look images were also released alongside the announcement of additional cast members.
The path to this release started in spring of the previous year. APTN, CBC and Netflix announced the renewal after the first season broke into Netflix’s top ten in 27 countries. Netflix and CBC later announced that cameras had started rolling in Toronto, with filming planned to continue through April.
Plot Details for Siaja’s Next Chapter
The official logline describes Siaja as a young Inuk mother who is still making bold decisions and even bolder mistakes in her effort to level up her life. The hardest part for her is proving to her tight-knit Arctic community, and to herself, that she is ready to take charge.
The new episodes pick up from a pair of major developments. At the end of the first season Siaja wins the research office for Ice Cove and then discovers she has a sister, which leaves her family and romantic life at a turning point.
Speaking with What’s on Netflix, star Anna Lambe said Siaja is more confident and has grown a great deal, yet she remains impulsive and still dreams big. Lambe framed the central question of the season as “What do I really, really want?”
Siaja’s relationship with her mother is a major thread, and by the end of the first episode she decides to search for her sister, mainly because she wants that answer for her mom. Lambe also pointed to an episode centered on Millie and Colin, in which the friends go on a beer quest for Millie’s birthday while repairing a strained bond.
Returning and New Cast Members in Ice Cove
Anna Lambe leads the cast as Siaja, joined by Maika Harper as Neevee, Braeden Clarke as Kuuk, Jay Ryan as Alistair and Mary Lynn Rajskub as Helen. Zorga Qaunaq returns as Millie, Bailey Poching as Colin, Nutaaq Simmonds as Elisapee and Keira Cooper as Bun.
The newcomers include a familiar name from Canadian comedy. Bruce McCulloch of ‘The Kids in the Hall’ joins as Military Mitch, an instructor hired to teach first aid at the Ice Cove Community Centre. An earlier report also listed Sabrina Wan in the role of Haishi.
The season also leans into Indigenous creators and artists. Cameo appearances come from content creators Ashley Callingbull, Braeden Kudlun, Chelazon Leroux, Kairyn Potts, Kayuula Nova, Shina Nova and Scott Wabano. Singer-songwriter and Inuk activist Elisapie is set to guest star, coinciding with the debut of a new song in the season.
Behind the camera, the series was created by Stacey Aglok MacDonald and Alethea Arnaquq-Baril. With Siaja chasing answers about a sister she never knew existed and Military Mitch bringing his first aid classes to the Ice Cove Community Centre, which storyline in the second season of ‘North of North’ are you most curious to see unfold, and do you think Siaja finally figures out what she really wants, tell us in the comments.
