Out With the Old, In With the New: New Reports Reveal Exciting Details About the MCU’s Post-Secret Wars Reboot!

The MCU has seen a partial resurgence in fan interest and box office success following the release of Deadpool & Wolverine. However, the reality remains that many heroes’ storylines have been neglected for years, and numerous key elements in the MCU continue to be overlooked.

What was once the most ambitious crossover saga in cinematic history has, in recent years, unraveled into an overblown tangle, with each new installment piling on unresolved threads and growing logical inconsistencies.

For years, rumors have swirled that the MCU is gearing up for a reboot, and what better chance to reset the entire universe than with Secret Wars?

Multiple sources suggest that a reboot is indeed on the horizon. In a recent October AMA, Alex Perez of Cosmic Circus confirmed that the MCU will undergo a soft reboot rather than a full reset.

Manglor: Will there be some kind of continuity reboot after Secret Wars? Or will it just be a very soft reboot that still keeps everything prior intact, or just have there be no reboot at all?

Alex Perez:  From what I understand, it’s a soft reboot.

This reinforces something we reported a few months ago. In Joanna Robinson’s book The Reign of Marvel Studios, it’s revealed that Kevin Feige plans to “prune” the elements that aren’t working while preserving what still succeeds.

We have a quote from Kevin Feige sort of implying… that like Secret Wars will serve as a soft reboot in which they can prune everything. That’s not to use a Loki-ism. Prune everything that’s not working and just keep what is [working], or bring back people you thought were gone forever.

There are also rumors suggesting that the only elements likely to remain from the “old” Multiverse will be Fantastic Four and Young Avengers, with the X-Men being introduced after the Secret Wars reboot.

A soft reboot could address many of the MCU’s current issues, offering certain characters a fresh start. In a soft reboot, key characters, events, or parts of the original continuity are kept or acknowledged, while other aspects are reimagined, left behind, or updated to attract a new audience.

For the MCU, this could mean resetting certain storylines or debuting new versions of characters, all while continuing to reference past events. This approach allows the franchise to evolve without completely wiping out its history.

Personally, I’d love to see a reboot for the Eternals! What about you? Let us know in the comments below!
