On What Chapter Does the ‘Vinland Saga’ Anime End?
Vinland Saga is a historical manga written and drawn by Mangaka Makoto Yukimura. The series was published by Kōdansha in Weekly Shōnen Magazine in April 2005 before being moved to the monthly magazine Afternoon in December 2005. Several Icelandic sagas inspire the manga and refers to the discovery of North America by the Vikings. An adaptation into an animated television series by Wit Studio first aired between July 8 and December 30, 2019. A second season by studio MAPPA is currently airing. In this article, we will explain how the manga chapters have been adapted in the anime series, as you will find out on what manga chapter the anime series ended.
The Vinland Saga anime series is still ongoing, like the manga. This means that we don’t know how many chapters the anime is going to adapt, but we assume that all chapters will end up being adapted once the manga is finished. As of the time of writing, the most recent episode of the anime was an adaptation of Chapter 86 of the manga; the show’s first season ended with Chapter 54.
The rest of this article is actually going to be an overview of the structure of the Vinland Saga anime about the publication of the manga. After a brief introduction, we will give you a detailed guide on how the manga was adapted, i.e., which chapter was adapted in which episode. We won’t be going too deep into the plot of the series, so there won’t be too many spoilers in the article. The article is up-to-date with the most recent article as of the time of writing (May 4, 2023).
Without fillers, Vinland Saga is a pretty straightforward series with little to no non-canon content
The manga debuted in April 2005 in publisher Kōdansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine. In October of the same year, the publication was suspended, to resume in December in the monthly magazine Afternoon, also published by Kōdansha. This change is due to the pace of creation that Makoto Yukimura could not sustain; one chapter per week generally seems ill-suited to historical series, where research takes time, and the plot takes place over a long period, and where the sets have to be worked on more.
On March 19, 2018, production company Twin Engine revealed that the series would receive an anime adaptation produced by Wit Studio. The series was directed by Shūhei Yabuta with scripts written by Hiroshi Seko and Kenta Ihara, character designs by Takahiko Abiru, and a soundtrack composed by Yutaka Yamada. Consisting of 24 episodes, the first season aired in Japan between July 8 and December 30, 2019, on NHK General TV, with the first three episodes airing consecutively. A second 24-episode season premiered on January 10, 2023, and is still ongoing as of the time of writing.
Vinland Saga is known for being a faithful adaptation of the manga, and the episodes have adapted the chapters in the following manner:
