The story of Vinsmoke Sanji in One Piece is exceptionally interesting, and among the Straw Hats, he has one of the more interesting histories, which was filled with various events from his past that actually helped shape Sanji into the character we all know and love. This article will be dedicated to one part of Sanji’s story, as we will explain the episode where he almost starved to death. You’re going to find out why he had to starve and how long it lasted.

After the sinking of the ships, Sanji and Zeff were stranded on a naked rock without any vegetation or animals. They had food rations for about 25 days, and Zeff decided to give all of his foot to Sanji; he eventually cut off his own leg and ate it to survive. But, after the 25 days passed, Sanji was without food. Sanji somehow managed to survive without food for a total of 60 days, which is in line with the fact that the two of them were stranded on the rock for 85 days. After that, a ship was sighted, and both of them were saved from certain death.

This article will recount the story of Sanji’s starvation, as it happened early in his story. This will also be the story of how Sanji met Zeff and their shared adventure began. It is a bit unrealistic (as going without any food for two months is a bit of a stretch, really), but that’s One Piece for you – what did not kill Sanji only made him a lot stronger in that aspect. We are going to reveal all the necessary information to you, and you will then know everything you need to know. As for spoilers, we do have to warn you that the article will have a significant amount of them, so be careful how you approach it.

Due to an accident, Sanji had to survive without food for a total of 60 days

What do we know about Vinsmoke Sanji? Well, he is the cook of the Straw Hat Pirates and one of its earliest and most famous members. He does not have a Devil Fruit, but his unique fighting style is what made him exceptionally notorious and powerful. He is actually the third son of Vinsmoke Judge, the notorious ruler of the Germa Kingdom, and is the only one of the siblings who was spared of his father’s scientific interventions due to the sacrifice of his mother.

This is why he was seen as an outcast among his siblings and why he was a target of their abuse. Ultimately, he left his family and went on his own, as he did not want to have anything to do with them. Instead, since he liked to eat a lot, he decided to pursue his goal of becoming a cook, which is how he met the pirate Zeff and how the two of them would become cooking partners. But let us now get to the story.

So, after Sanji escaped from his home, he ended up on the cruise ship Orbit, where he later became an apprentice cook. Two years later, the ship was attacked by the Cook Pirates during a storm: Sanji was overwhelmed by a wave and fell into the sea, but Zeff dived into the water to save him. Both arrived at a small deserted island devoid of vegetation, where they decided to remain apart unless they sighted a ship; Zeff gave a sack of supplies to Sanji, kept a much bigger one for himself, and walked away.

The rations Zeff gave to Sanji were enough for a total of 25 days, and Sanji actually spent all of them in that time. After that, since the rock provided no food whatsoever, Sanji began starving. The starvation process lasted for a total of 60 days; it is unknown how he survived for so long, but since we’re dealing with One Piece, which is a fantasy series, this isn’t so strange, honestly. A big issue for Sanji, though, was the fact that Zeff kept a larger bag for himself, so Sanji thought that he had kept more food for himself while giving Sanji less.

This is why, after sixty days, Sanji decided to steal the food in the pirate’s sack, but he discovered that it was actually filled only with gold and jewels and that he had, therefore, given all the food to him. To survive, the pirate had, in fact, eaten one of his legs. At that point, Zeff explained to Sanji that he saved him because they both had the same dream: to find the All Blue.

After spending a total of 85 days on the rock, they were rescued by a passing ship and soon opened the Baratie to feed anyone who needed it. At the same time, Zeff educated him by being furious with him when he broke a plate and dropped the food on the floor after seeing a beautiful woman. Zeff also once told him that he was slow to cook, and it struck him when he saw him wasting time with a girl. He became assistant head chef and sometimes fed in the back of the restaurant those whom the other chefs were kicking out because they couldn’t pay.

One day, he, Paty, and Carne asked Zeff to hire a cook. The latter stated that he was used to educating through kicks, and with a woman, he could not have done it. When the boy replied that he could do it anyway, Zeff hit him several times on the head, giving him many bumps, telling him that a man doesn’t kick a woman because if he did, he would stop being a man.

Also, he should have cut off his testicles, while he should have done the same with his head, as that was what a father should do. As he left, he also told Sanji not to hate him while growing up, ordering him to go back to work.
