Pedro Pascal Wants to Keep Playing Din Djarin as Long as His Body Will Let Him, and It’s Easy to See Why
Few roles in recent memory have shaped a career quite the way ‘The Mandalorian‘ shaped Pedro Pascal’s. When the series launched on Disney+ back in 2019, it introduced the world to Din Djarin, a stoic, helmeted bounty hunter navigating the galaxy’s lawless edges alongside a tiny green foundling the internet immediately and permanently nicknamed Baby Yoda. Seven years have now passed since Pascal first stepped into that Beskar armor, and the character has become something far greater than a streaming hit.
Din Djarin and his small green companion are now making their theatrical debut in ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’, a film directed by Jon Favreau that arrives in cinemas on May 22, 2026. The movie stars Sigourney Weaver in a major role as Colonel Ward, continuing the franchise’s tradition of casting iconic figures from classic cinema. Jeremy Allen White also joins the cast as Rotta the Hutt, son of Jabba, while Martin Scorsese makes a cameo as the voice of an Ardennian food truck owner, a performance director Favreau has called one of the highlights of the film.
It is against this backdrop that Pascal’s recent comments about the role carry real emotional weight. At a Q&A in London attended by GamesRadar+, the actor reflected on how deeply Din Djarin has come to define his working life. “I’m completely grateful. It’s the longest creative relationship I’ve had, it’s the character that I’ve played the longest,” he said, before adding that he hoped to keep playing him “for as long as my body, or as many bodies as we put into the suit, can take it.”
That last line speaks to something unique about how the Mandalorian has always been portrayed on screen. Pascal has long done the bulk of his work in the voice booth, with stunt performers Brendan Wayne and Lateef Crowder physically inhabiting the Mandalorian armor for much of the filming, handling everything from action sequences to dramatic moments. A behind-the-scenes reel shown at Star Wars Celebration 2025 confirmed that Pascal was present on set in the suit for ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’, though the full extent of his physical presence in the finished film remains to be seen.
His dedication to the project runs deeper than just showing up. Speaking with Collider at Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Japan, Pascal described working with Favreau from day one of ‘The Mandalorian’ as one of the most creatively fulfilling experiences of his life. “I think Jon Favreau is a genius,” Pascal told Collider, praising Favreau’s ability to transition the beloved series into what he described as one of the most epic adventure movies he had ever been part of.
The film picks up from where ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3 left off, with Din Djarin and Grogu enlisted by the New Republic to rescue Rotta the Hutt in exchange for intelligence on a mysterious target. Director Favreau has also highlighted how Grogu has evolved significantly, noting that the character now fights alongside Din as a Mandalorian apprentice rather than needing to be rescued, with his Force abilities more developed following his training with Luke Skywalker.
For fans who have watched this found-family story unfold across three seasons and counting, Pascal’s heartfelt commitment to the character is about as comforting as a warm bowl of whatever that Ardennian is cooking. Whether it’s his voice, his face, or somebody else inside the Beskar suit, this Mandalorian clearly still has more road ahead of him.
Are you ready to see Din Djarin and Grogu finally share the big screen together, and do you think the leap from Disney+ to theatrical release is the right move for this story?
