Plunderer Season 2: Release Date, Trailer, Plot, Cast & More
Plunderer is a manga series written and drawn by Suu Minazuki. The story follows the adventures of a young girl named Hina who is in search of the legendary Ace following the request of her late mother and is accompanied by the swordsman Licht Bach. The manga is currently published in Kadokawa Shoten’s Monthly Shōnen Ace magazine since December 2014. An adaptation into an animated television series by studio Geek Toys aired between January 9 and June 25, 2020, with a total of 24 episodes. In this article, we are going to tell you whether there is going to be a Season 2 of Plunderer.
The second season of Plunderer still hasn’t been confirmed yet. The first season aired in 2020 and was a pretty successful outing, despite its delicate topics. This, along with the popularity of the source material, makes Plunderer a very likely candidate for a renewal, but we do not think that it will happen before 2023 if it does in the first place.
The rest of this article is going to bring you all the known and unknown information related to a potential season 2 of Plunderer. You’re going to find out about its potential release date, whether there is a trailer, what the story could be about, and much more about this extremely popular new anime series.
Plunderer Season 2 release date
An anime adaptation of Plunderer was announced in the April 2018 issue of Monthly Shōnen Ace, published on February 18, 2018. It was later announced to be an anime television series directed by Hiroyuki Kanbe of the animation studio Geek Toys, with scripts supervised by Masashi Suzuki, character designs provided by Yuka Takashina, Yūki Fukuchi and Hiroki Fukuda, and with the soundtrack composed by Junichi Matsumoto at Nippon Columbia.
The series first aired between January 9 and June 25, 2020 on Tokyo MX and KBS, and later on SUN, TVA, BS11 and AT-X. The series is made up of 24 episodes spread across four Blu-ray box sets. A preview screening of the first episode was held on December 8, 2019 at EJ Anime Theater Shinjuku in Tokyo with Yoshiki Nakajima, Rina Honnizumi and Ari Ozawa in attendance.
In North America, the simulcasting was handled by Funimation, which is also planning an English dub for the series. The opening songs of the series are performed by Miku Itō. The first ending song was interpreted by Rina Honnizumi, under the name of her character, while that of the second ending was interpreted by Rina Honnizumi, Ari Ozawa and Shizuka Itō, under the names of their characters.
Everything we know about the show’s popularity points to Plunderer coming back at one point or another, and we honestly think that Plunderer is a very likely candidate for renewal. There is still enough unadapted material for the show to work on (the manga isn’t even over), and its success definitely merits at least a couple of additional seasons. Despite the somewhat tricky content, Plunderer has managed to achieve success and we can only thank the pandemic for a delayed announcement of a second season.
Taking all of this into account, Plunderer‘s future seems very good. The manga is quite popular, as was the anime series, all of which points to a very probable renewal in the near future. Based on our knowledge of the industry, the second season could appear in 2023 or 2024, although we’ll have to wait for some official news in order to confirm this.
Plunderer Season 2 trailer
You now know all the facts and our thoughts related to Plunderer season 2, which means that you’ve probably deduced for yourselves that there is no trailer for the second season of Plunderer. This is because we do not know whether there will even be a second season of the show, which means that a trailer might not appear at all, but that is not very likely in our opinion.
As we have said, Plunderer is a very likely candidate for a return. The manga series still has a lot of material up for adapting and the anime was quite popular when it aired back in 2020, but we have to wait and see whether there are actual plans for a continuation before we can make a proper prediction.
Taking into account everything we’ve said, a trailer for Plunderer is unlikely to come out this year (a proper one, at least, a teaser or PV trailer might appear this year, though, if the second season gets announced). The earliest we could see a trailer is early 2023, but we would have to get confirmation of a second season sometime during 2022 for that to happen.
Plunderer Season 2 plot
At this moment, we do not know which parts of the manga series are going to be adapted in the potential Season 2. Namely, due to a lack of information in general, we have absolutely no clue how far the second season might go. This is why we do not know what awaits us in the potential second season of the show. The only thing we know for sure is that it will continue the adventure of the show’s protagonists. What follows is a general overview of the show’s plot.
The plot takes place in a medieval world where numbers rule everyone’s life. Each person has a counter visible on their body that indicates their social rank, forcing you not to be able to resist orders from others with a higher counter. The counter increases depending on certain actions, individual to each person, but can also decrease.
Should it drop to zero, however, you will be yanked into the abyss by phantom hands that come out of the ground. The protagonist is the naïve Hina, whose mother was torn into the abyss and, shortly before her death, told her to find the legendary Red Baron – the hero of the “Abolition War”, which ended 305 years ago and founded the kingdom.
After five years and more than 40,000 kilometers of hiking – her counter increases for every 100 km she has walked – she arrives in the city where he is supposed to be. Here she makes the acquaintance of a strange, masked man named Licht Bach, who begs her for food and has a negative counter, as well as the shopkeeper Nana.
Shortly thereafter, she meets a soldier who introduces himself as the Red Baron, to whom she shows her mother’s heirloom, a Black Counter, which would give its wielder an additional 10,000 points on use, placing it above most others and their possessions therefore illegal. The soldier forces Hina to give it to her and since his counter is lower, he convinces her to take part in a “star race” where you stake your points and the winner then loots the loser’s points.
After Hina loses, she is saved by Licht, who turns out to be the real Red Baron. With his identity now revealed, Licht flees and ends up in a remote coastal town under the protection of Sergeant Lynn Mei, who falls in love with Licht after a misunderstanding. Tasked with capturing Light is First Lieutenant Jail Murdock, who has the ability to manipulate iron in any form.
But a mysterious special unit of the army under the command of Major Schumermann, which strangely uses modern technology that doesn’t fit into the medieval world, is also after Licht, with Hina, Lynn and Jail being implicated.
Plunderer Season 2 cast
It’s still too early for us to discuss a potential second season of Plunderer in terms of cast and characters, simply because we do not know whether there will even be a second season. But, seeing how we know that the series is going to have a more-or-less fixed cast, we really don’t expect to see too many changes in the structure of season two, if it ever happens. Now, the main characters that have appeared in season one, likely to return for a second season, include:
- Licht Bach / Rihito Sakai
Japanese voice: Yoshiki Nakajima
The main character of the series. A white-haired, red-eyed swordsman after his surgery who also wears a strange mask to hide his expressions. His Account is special because it is negative, it corresponds to the number of women who have rejected him. However, this is not his real account, indeed, he has another account engraved on the blade of his saber corresponding to the number of people he has defeated. He is actually one of the legendary red barons. Like every Ace, he wears a mask; his is white, covering his entire face with a tear of blood running down from under his eye. - Hina Farrow
Japanese voice: Rina Honnizumi
The main heroine of the series. A girl with light blue hair. She travels with an “Original Urn”, following her mother’s last words just before she was sent to the Abyss. Hina’s Count corresponds to the number of hundreds of kilometers she has traveled. - Nana Bassler
Japanese voice: Shizuka Itō
The attractive manager of a traveling tavern with silver hair. His Account is the number of people who tell him that his dishes are delicious. It is nevertheless the first ace and is secretly in love with Licht. - Jail Murdoch
Japanese voice: Yūichirō Umehara
A lieutenant in the Royal Armed Forces of Alcia who is also the leader of the Gefängnis company. His Account to the greatness of his conviction. - Lyne Mei
Japanese voice: Ari Ozawa
A Sergeant-Major of the Royal Armed Forces of Alcia. She seeks to be promoted in order to lengthen her skirt. Her Account is the number of people she has helped. Her kicks are so powerful that she is able to smash through trees. After being saved by Licht, the latter also falls in love with him. - Pele Poporo
Japanese voice: Aoi Ichikawa
A Sergeant of the Royal Armed Forces of Alcia. He ends his sentences with “ssu”. The criteria for his Account are unknown. He follows Sergeant Major Lyne in most of his projects and even if he is sometimes rough with this one, he is particularly fond of her. - Mizuka Sonohara
Japanese voice: Aoi Yūki
A commander of a special unit in the army of Alcia. She is the ace of the pursuit.
Where to watch Plunderer Season 2?
At this moment, as expected, there is no means of watching Plunderer season two, as there is no season two of Plunderer to watch. The first season was streamed globally by Crunchyroll, the best anime-related site on the Internet, so it is safe to assume that a second season, if it ever happens, will also be streamed via Crunchyroll.
Will there be a Plunderer Season 3?
The future of Plunderer is, as of this moment, unknown. At this moment, we don’t really know anything about a second season, so whether we’ll be seeing the third season or not is still unknown. The series has done well and there is a lot of material to adapt, which is a good sign for fans of Plunderer, and it means that has a solid foundation for a return even after Season 2. Now, whether that’ll happen or not is a different thing we’ll have to wait for.
