Pokémon Just Turned Its Sleepiest Icon Into A $6,000 Piece Of Fine Jewelry

Pokémon has spent nearly three decades building an empire out of collectibility, and its 30th anniversary celebrations have leaned hard into that idea. From special edition trading cards to watch collaborations, the franchise has been finding new ways to remind longtime fans that their nostalgia now comes with a grown up price tag attached.

That trend hit a new peak this week when the official ‘Pokemon’ brand unveiled a jewelry line unlike anything it has released before. The collection swaps out plastic figures and plush toys for genuine gold and silver pieces, aimed squarely at collectors who have grown up and built the disposable income to match their fandom.

According to Dexerto, the centerpiece of the drop is an 18 karat gold Snorlax necklace priced at over $6,000. The Pokemon Company partnered with luxury jewelry maker U-Treasure to release necklaces based on some of its most iconic creatures, and the sleepy Snorlax pendant leads the pack as the priciest piece in the lineup.

The gold Snorlax necklace comes in at $6,118, and the pendant measures 13.65 millimeters tall, 15.6 millimeters wide, and 9.8 millimeters thick. Every fine detail of the character’s rounded belly and drowsy expression has reportedly been carried over into the metal, giving the piece a surprisingly premium presence for a creature best known for blocking cave entrances and taking naps.

Snorlax is not traveling alone in this collection. Fans who want something more budget friendly can opt for a Ditto necklace priced at $3,060, a Pikachu pendant at $2,650, or a Pikachu sitting atop a Poke Ball for $1,770, while a shiny Magikarp design rounds things out at a lower price point. Per a breakdown from Retrododo, the full lineup includes five total designs, split between two Pikachu variants, Ditto, Magikarp, and Snorlax, with one Pikachu piece even holding a small diamond.

For anyone put off by the price of solid gold, U-Treasure is also releasing silver versions of each necklace plated in yellow gold for around $203, giving budget conscious fans a way to still take part in the celebration. Every necklace in the collection comes packaged with an exclusive 30th anniversary jewelry cloth, a commemorative presentation box, and a charm engraved with the franchise’s anniversary logo.

Pre-orders for the collection opened on July 10 and run through August 14, available through the Pokemon Company’s online store and select concept stores in Japan. This is not the franchise’s first foray into upscale accessories this year either, with U-Treasure having previously released Pokemon inspired wedding rings alongside a separate Casio watch collaboration tied to the same 30th anniversary push.

Whether collectors see the Snorlax necklace as a legitimate jewelry investment or the ultimate flex to wear at a tournament, it is proof that Pokemon’s audience has grown up right alongside its most famous nap enthusiast. Would you actually drop over six thousand dollars on a gold Snorlax, or are you sticking with the silver version to keep the vibe without draining your wallet?
