‘Pokémon’ MMO Rumor Explodes: Game Freak Reportedly Building Toward a Multi-Region Online World

Every few years, the same wish returns to the ‘Pokémon‘ fan community: a massive, shared world where trainers from every region can meet. It has long felt like a dream, but the series has been inching closer to online play with each new generation. Now a fresh leak is arguing that the destination is a full multiplayer online game.

The idea has been swirling for months. Back in March, leaker Centro LEAKS claimed that a multi-region MMO, codenamed Project Seed, was in pre-production at Game Freak. That post described a game linking Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Kitakami into a single world, and suggested a release in 2029 or later.

Those details set the stage for a new round of speculation. Centro LEAKS, who has more than 1 million followers across their accounts, posted a fresh thread on X on September 17. In it, the leaker argued that Game Freak has been preparing players for an MMORPG for years, using each generation to test more advanced online features.

Dexerto shared the claim on X on September 20, saying the rumored multi-region MMO is reportedly in development and could launch after Generation 11. Centro LEAKS claims Game Freak has been gradually building toward a full MMORPG with expanded online features. The post has drawn 945.4K views, 22K likes, and 972 reposts, along with 326 replies.

The leaker’s argument rests on a clear progression. Generation 8 let players see random trainers online in certain areas, while Generation 9 expanded that so they could see and interact with other players across the entire map. Generation 10, according to the leak, will add MMO-style quests and cooperative play with friends.

That is what leads to the final step. Centro LEAKS first suggested that a full MMORPG might arrive with Generation 11 or late in Generation 10. Another account replying to the post then claimed the game would not be Generation 11 itself, but would release sometime afterward.

A separate report said the effort was described as prototyping for a next-generation online game. That project would let players move freely between regions and interact in ways mainline games have not allowed before. Some outlets have floated a wider list of possible regions, including Paldea, Galar, Alola, Kalos and Unova, though nothing is settled.

It is important to keep expectations in check. Neither Game Freak, Nintendo, nor The Pokémon Company has confirmed an MMO, and the leak offers no title, platform, or release window. Readdork noted that the claim was picked up by CBR rather than announced through any official channel.

Timing estimates also vary widely, from alongside ‘Pokémon Winds and Waves’ to a separate release near the end of the decade. That range shows how early the project reportedly is. Game Freak also has a reputation for abandoning ambitious projects, which adds another layer of caution.

Still, the appetite for a shared world is obvious. ComicBasics reported that a Hytale modder has begun turning classic ‘Pokémon’ games into a multiplayer MMO that players can run with friends. It is no replacement for an official release, but it shows just how strongly the community wants this.

For now, the story remains a rumor. Every generation adds another piece to the puzzle, and the steady growth of online features makes the theory easier to believe. Whether it truly leads to a full MMO is something only Game Freak can answer.

The debate is also likely to intensify as ‘Pokémon Winds and Waves’ approaches. If the leaked Generation 10 features are accurate, fans will soon get a clearer picture of where the series is headed. That could either strengthen or weaken the case for an MMO.
