Reports Hint at a Larger Role for Kate Bishop in Rumored ‘Hawkeye’ Season 2

Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye is a fan-favorite character in the MCU, with his most recent live-action appearance being in the ‘Hawkeye’ series. He has since lent his voice to the role in ‘What If…?’ Season 2, specifically in the episode ‘What If…Happy Hogan Saved Christmas.’
While Disney+ shows rarely receive a second season—’Loki’ being a notable exception where the second season surpassed the first—it looks like ‘Hawkeye’ may be breaking the mold by getting its own second season.
Keep in mind that there is no official confirmation of the show’s renewal yet. However, the development of the project has been confirmed by several inside sources, with the latest confirmation coming from Alex Perez during his recent Discord AMA. Perez also mentioned that Kate Bishop, who has taken over as the MCU’s Hawkeye, is expected to have a more prominent role in the series.
Liam | Kate Bishop Fan: hi Alex, hope you are well, do you know anything about if Hawkeye S2 has been greenlit/development?
Alex: I’ve heard that Hawkeye S2 is in development with several ideas, primarily one that would put Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop in a more prominent role than she was in the first season. But again, being in development and moving forward are two very different things.
If you’re wondering why it’s been so long since Hawkeye’s last MCU appearance, you’re right to be concerned. Not only was his character “retired” with Kate Bishop taking over his duties, but Jeremy Renner also suffered a severe accident over a year ago.
On January 1, 2023, Renner was hospitalized after a snowplow accident at home, which caused blunt chest trauma and 30 broken bones. The 14,330-pound snowplow ran over him, and he was airlifted to Renown Regional Medical Center. He underwent surgery and was initially in critical condition in the ICU but was discharged on January 17. He began walking with a cane ten weeks later, with doctors attributing his survival to his robust health and fitness. It was later revealed that he was clinically dead when first treated.
Despite the long hiatus, there’s no reason Hawkeye couldn’t or shouldn’t return to the MCU. Renner himself has stated that he feels strong enough to come back, and given that the character has “retired” and returned multiple times before, this situation is nothing new.
