BREAKING NEWS! Rockstar Games finally broke silence on the future of the Grand Theft Auto franchise! The sixth main entry is definitely in development, and although nothing more than that has been revealed, this is probably the biggest news we got to write since… forever! You don’t believe it? Yeah, neither were we when we first saw it.
The latest entry of the Grand Theft Auto franchise — Grand Theft Auto 5 – was released in 2013 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game was re-released for PS4, Xbox One, and PC a year later, and since then it remained the latest installment of the biggest video game franchise. Grand Theft Auto 5 grossed over $6 billion in revenue, and it presented the revolutionary GTA Online which gathered fans all around the world in the ultimate online experience which Rockstar kept updating with new content every now and then to this day.
In their latest letter to the fans on their official website, Rockstar Games officially confirmed that they’re preparing more things for GTA5 and GTA Online, but they also revealed that the development of the next GTA entry is underway. Check the full quote below:
“With the unprecedented longevity of GTAV, we know many of you have been asking us about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series. With every new project we embark on, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we have previously delivered — and we are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway. We look forward to sharing more as soon as we are ready, so please stay tuned to the Rockstar Newswire for official details.” — Rockstar Games
It’s been almost four years since Rockstar Games released their latest big game — Red Dead Redemption 2 – which was in development for eight years before it was released. Many rumors regarding the upcoming GTA6 surfaced all over the internet in the last few years, but most of them were just unconfirmed and presumably false. Some gaming YouTubers and influencers even brought a bad reputation on themselves for purposely lying about the development of the unannounced game a few years back.
GTA6 is the most anticipated game in history, and we still don’t know a thing about it, except that it’s coming. Although, one thing that’s worrying us is that Dan Houser, the man who wrote all the GTA and Red Dead games so far left the company in 2020, and we don’t know in what way the development of the game will go without him and several other important people that left the company since GTA5 was released.
GTA5 is set to be re-released next year for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. That was announced at the PlayStation showcase back in 2020, but it caused a massive rage among the fans, and we can’t blame them. Rockstar Games was milking GTA5 for almost a decade now, come on, it’s time we get something new!
