Rumors: Demayo Faced Issues With ‘X-Men 97’ & ‘Blade’ Before Firing

Yesterday, it was reported that Beau DeMayo, the creator behind ‘X-Men ’97,’ set to debut in a few weeks, was abruptly fired. His termination came without prior notice, as his company email was deactivated, and Marvel Studios (along with Disney) severed all ties with him in what appears to be an unexpected move. This news is particularly surprising considering DeMayo’s significant involvement in Marvel’s future plans. ‘X-Men ’97’ had already been slated for a second season before the premiere of its first season. Additionally, DeMayo was allegedly in discussions for a third season and was actively engaged in crafting the script for the upcoming ‘Blade’ reboot.

Although neither the studio nor his representatives provided a reason for his dismissal, a well-known source, CanWeGetSomeToast, shared on X that it was due to a combination of factors.

It appears there were issues during the development of ‘X-Men ’97,’ and Beau DeMayo’s initial draft of the ‘Blade’ script didn’t meet expectations. However, it’s worth noting that even CWGST isn’t suggesting this was the main reason for his dismissal. Something more serious likely triggered his termination. Moreover, recent rumors about problematic ‘Blade’ development have resurfaced.

A few weeks ago, there was speculation that Mahershala Ali had completely exited the project due to further delays. However, Ali clarified that he is satisfied with the story’s progress, despite ongoing changes. Michael Green has been brought in for rewrites, with a focus on maintaining the “R” rating, as previously mentioned by Demange several months ago.

Originally slated for a 2023 release, the ‘Blade’ movie has been delayed by over two years due to production issues and the SAG-AFTRA strike, now targeting a November 7, 2025 release. Given the ongoing changes, it’s likely that further delays are to be expected.
