Shawn Levy Weighs in on Numerous Cameos in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ & Confirms Our Fears

With ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ less than a month away, MCU fandom is ablaze. The movie is being heavily marketed online with goofy teasers, posters, and social media posts by the cast.
This film is significant for several reasons: it marks Deadpool’s and Wolverine’s debut in the MCU. The studio anticipates a major box office hit, with long-term projections suggesting it could be the highest-grossing movie of the year.
Throughout the extensive marketing campaign for ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ much of the emphasis has been on cameos and variants. Over 20 confirmed and rumored characters are expected to appear, many from the previous Fox ‘X-Men’ franchise. With so many cameos, fans are beginning to question whether the movie has a cohesive plot or if it will simply be a collection of random scenes featuring former X-Men, villains, and other Marvel-related characters, such as CW’s Blade played by Sticky Fingaz.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Shawn Levy addressed the cameos in the upcoming movie, revealing that they will not play a central role in the story but will instead be “peppered in throughout.”
We didn’t want any of the cameos or characters to be the story of the movie. But they are peppered in throughout. There’s a lot of characters. The internet is a delight of rumors about the multitude of character cameos that are in this movie. Some rumors are true, some are way off base.
Fans have been concerned that the numerous cameos will be largely unimportant and included merely as fan service, much like what happened in ‘Multiverse of Madness.’ There are high expectations for ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ especially with teased and rumored appearances by seemingly impossible characters like Doctor Doom and even Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man. Balancing all these cameos while maintaining a cohesive storyline seems challenging.
Regardless, we’ll see the results soon, as ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ hits theaters on July 26.
