Simon Kinberg Reveals If There’s A Possibility That Previous X-Men Actors Could Return To MCU
Simon Kinberg is one of the filmmakers who worked the most on FOX’s X-Men franchise. Kinberg joined the franchise when he wrote the screenplay for X-Men: The Last Stand, and he also wrote X-Men: Days of the Future Past, X-Men: Apocalypse, and Dark Phoenix, which was also his debut as the director. Kinberg wrote some movies we gladly remember, like Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Sherlock Holmes starring Robert Downey Jr., but he also wrote some we’d quite like to forget (Fant4stic).
Kinberg recently spoke with IGN while promoting his newest movie — The 355, a star-studded action-thriller starring Jessica Chastain, Lupita Nyong’o, Penélope Cruz, Diane Kruger, Bingbing Fan, Sebastian Stan, and Édgar Ramírez. As the veteran of the X-Men movie, of course, that Kinberg was asked about the current situation with X-Men on the big screen. As we all know, Disney acquired Fox in 2019, which brought X-Men characters back to Marvel Studios, and it’s obvious that Kevin Feige is working on an idea on how to incorporate Mutants into MCU.
Kinberg was asked about the possibility of any of the previous X-Men actors potentially returning to MCU. Kinberg said he has no idea about that right now, but he praised Kevin Feige and said he’s sure that the president of Marvel Studios will do the right thing.
“The honest answer is, I have no idea. And the other answer is, Kevin [Feige] knows what he is doing with the MCU. I would argue he’s the greatest producer in the history of cinema. Truly. I mean, if you look at it pound for pound in terms of quality and in terms of obviously commercial success, there’s no question the latter is true. So I don’t know. […] I love those actors. I love them as human beings, and I love them as the characters. So obviously, there’s a part of me that would be incredibly nostalgic and would be excited to see them. And certainly, I can’t imagine another person playing Wolverine, but I also couldn’t imagine another person playing James Bond. And I think that there’s an aspect of some of these characters where it’s like, there are a lot of great Hamlets over time. And I think even Hugh felt that with the end of Logan.” — Simon Kinberg for IGN
It’s unknown when the X-Men will join the MCU. Some rumors are saying that that could be in the upcoming movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, because of its Multiversal concept, but those rumors aren’t confirmed and it still seems too early to introduce another superhero group into the MCU. The only actor from the X-Men franchise who was confirmed to return is Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, and we all know why.
