Solo Leveling: 5 Facts About the Hell’s Gatekeeper Cerberus!
Solo Leveling is a South Korean novel series that has recently seen an anime adaptation. Arguably the most popular manhwa in the world, Solo Leveling is sure to attract a lot of attention, especially because the anime adaptation is truly great. While we’re enjoying the episodes, we have decided to talk about the series, and in this article, we are going to be covering a major Magic Beast from the series – Hell’s Gatekeeper Cerberus. This incredibly strong Beast appeared in the Demon’s Castle as the boss of the first floor of this S-Rank Dungeon. In this article, we have decided to present you with five interesting facts about the Hell’s Gatekeeper Cerberus!
Fact #1: Hell’s Gatekeeper Cerberus is a powerful A-Rank Magic Beast
As far Hell’s Gatekeeper Cerberus is concerned, we can confirm that it is one of the most powerful Magical Beasts in the whole series. Its powers and abilities are simply amazing, and when paired with its exceptional stats, you can understand why Hell’s Gatekeeper Cerberus is such a formidable and deadly foe. When Jinwoo fought it, he was much weaker than the beast.
It has been confirmed in the series that Hell’s Gatekeeper Cerberus is, in fact, an A-Rank Magic Beast, which means that it placed in the second-strongest group in the series. This explains why Jinwoo had so much trouble facing Hell’s Gatekeeper Cerberus and why he had to resort to his intelligence rather than brute strength.
Fact #2: Ironically, he is the weakest Boss of the Demon’s Castle
But, there is a bit of irony related to Fact #1, as we have described above. Namely, there is no denying that Hell’s Gatekeeper Cerberus was an exceptionally powerful foe, but – ironically – he was the weakest foe in the Demon’s Castle Instant Dungeon! Yes, you’ve read this one correctly – this beast, which almost killed Jinwoo in an instant is the weakest one in the Demon’s Castle!
We won’t be spoiling the other ones here, but we can confirm that all the beasts and enemies on the upper floors are significantly stronger. This tells us more about the Demon’s Castle than about Hell’s Gatekeeper Cerberus, but it is a very interesting fact about the Magic Beast we are talking about here and we simply had to stress it out.
Fact #3: Hell’s Gatekeeper Cerberus came close to killing Jinwoo
When Sung Jinwoo and Hell’s Gatekeeper Cerberus fought, the Magic Beast was very close to killing Jinwoo. Although the Hunter was able to deal some damage to the Beast, it was all insignificant and when Hell’s Gatekeeper Cerberus activated its Rage Mode, Jinwoo’s only hope was that he could escape, as he had absolutely no chance of winning in this situation.
Hell’s Gatekeeper Cerberus was faster and its bites dealt significant damage to Jinwoo. Jinwoo had to use Total Recovery once, but Hell’s Gatekeeper Cerberus was quickly able to reduce his HP to below 50% of the total. He also had to resort to using potions and despite winning, he was down to roughly 5% of his full HP when he managed to win; luckily the level-upping saved his life as it healed him completely.
Fact #4: Hell’s Gatekeeper Cerberus’ special Rage Mode
Hell’s Gatekeeper Cerberus is a Magical Beast with a very special ability called Rage Mode. The Beast was more powerful than Jinwoo even in normal mode, as the damage that Jinwoo dealt was minor, but when it activated its Rage Mode, it became – basically – invincible. All of its already-amazing states doubled in power, so he became twice as fast and twice as powerful.
The downside of Hell’s Gatekeeper Cerberus’ Rage Mode is that it lasts for only three minutes and that it then makes the Beast weaker, which is how Jinwoo was ultimately able to defeat it.
Fact #5: Hell’s Gatekeeper Cerberus was named and modeled after a mythological beast
Now that we have told you all about the beast’s powers and abilities, let us discuss the origins of Hell’s Gatekeeper Cerberus. As you might have presumed, Hell’s Gatekeeper Cerberus was named and modeled after Cerberus, the three-headed hound from Ancient Greek mythology.
The original Cerberus also had three heads, but he was not a demon and was less menacing than Hell’s Gatekeeper Cerberus, who looks like a monster. On top of that, both of them share the fact that they are guardians of Hell: the real Cerberus is in Hades, while Hell’s Gatekeeper Cerberus guards the Demon’s Castle. Cerberus is a common motif in fiction, so it is not a surprise that Solo Leveling also used this motif.
