15 Strongest Zoan-type Devil Fruits in One Piece (Ranked)
Zoan Fruits are one of the three types of Devil Fruits that exist. This type of fruit allows the user to transform into a full animal species and a hybrid form of the animal and its original form at complete will. Zoan-type Devil Fruits are especially effective in close combat. This term was first used when Dalton used his power to attack Wapol. Due to their popularity and importance for the franchise, we have decided to rank the 15 strongest Zoan-type Devil Fruits in One Piece.
15. Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Allosaurus
Eaten By: X Drake
The Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Allosaurus model is a Zoan-type Devil Fruit, more precisely an Ancient Zoan. This Fruit allows you to transform into an allosaur hybrid being or a complete allosaur. It was eaten by X Drake. Drake uses it mainly to be able to bite large opponents, such as a Pacifista. He can also use his tail to violently push back someone as he does against Sanji. He can use Armament Haki while in this form, having been able to hurt and beat Caribou while in this form. He used his Fruit to attack Scotch, in order to get the attention of Kaido whose favorite island Scotch was guarding.
14. Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Pachycephalosaurus
Eaten By: Ulti
Ulti consumed the Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Pachycephalosaurus, a Zoan-type Devil Fruit that allows its user to transform into Pachycephalosaurus. Due to this fruit and her fighting style, Ulti can perform devastating headbutts. With this fruit, his already enormous physical strength is further increased, to the point where he can quickly grab Luffy and immobilize him even though the pirate is immensely strong.
The front of his skull is also greatly improved, likely greatly increasing the power of his headbutts, though just how powerful they are is yet to be seen. Ulti’s subordinates consider her transformation to be overkill against most opponents, and she only uses it against opponents she takes seriously.
13. Neko Neko no Mi, Model: Saber Tiger
Eaten By: Who’s-Who
The Neko Neko no Mi, Model: Saber Tiger is an Ancient Zoan-type Devil Fruit. This Fruit allows you to transform into a hybrid or full Saber-toothed Tiger. He was eaten by Who’s-Who. In his animal form, Who’s Who becomes gigantic and no longer has his long hair, and retains of his clothes only his trousers and his horned helmet. In this form, he resembles an enormous saber-toothed tiger, with huge canines.
In his hybrid form, Who’s Who is almost twice as tall as Jinbe, who stands at 301 cm and retains a semi-human face. He stands on his two hind legs and his costume remains. His torso becomes more muscular and larger than in his human form. This fruit has no known weaknesses other than those common to all Devil Fruits.
12. Kumo Kumo no Mi, Model: Rosamygale Grauvogeli
Eaten By: Black Maria
The Kumo Kumo no Mi, Model: Rosamygale Grauvogeli is a prehistoric Zoan-type Devil Fruit that allows its user to transform fully and partially into a Rosamygale grauvogeli, a spider from the Triassic period. It was eaten by Black Maria. Overall, Black Maria’s ability is quite versatile by Zoan standards, from her ability to use nets to blanket the battlefield with traps, create defensive barricades, or ensnare the enemy outright, leaving them vulnerable to her staff attacks and knuckles, poison-tipped paws, or the fire generated by Wanyudo.
This variety of abilities gives Black Maria several ways to control territory in his favor during a fight. Despite being a proficient fighter, Black Maria prefers a passive and indirect approach during battle, staying in one place setting traps, and employing her subordinates to lure out potential victims or incapacitate them after capture.
Black Maria also likes to torture those she manages to capture in her web, usually for mere sadistic pleasure. In direct combat scenarios, Black Maria uses her powers in combination with Wanyudo, her flaming polearm, to give herself the territorial advantage in close-range combat, such as using spider webs to cling to the ceiling and then setting the ground on fire, setting your enemy at a disadvantage when it comes to mobility.
11. Hebi Hebi no Mi, Model: Yamata no Orochi
Eaten by: Kurozumi Orochi
The Hebi Hebi no Mi, Model: Yamata no Orochi is a mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit that grants the power to partially or fully transform into the Yamata-no-Orochi. The last user of it was Kurozumi Orochi, and with his death, the fruit was reborn somewhere. The fruit is pineapple-shaped and has a bright fuchsia color. There are light green stem leaves on the top of the fruit with a round triangular shape at each end and scales around the fruit. The scales possess the swirling patterns typical of Devil Fruits.
This fruit grants its user eight serpent heads, each capable of speaking for itself. It appears that the user has some degree of control over the number of heads that can sprout at one time, with eight being the maximum limit. Interestingly, some of the features of Orochi’s human form, such as his crown and mustache, are only present on one of the heads.
Likewise, the consumer can vary the size and length of said heads, which may be no larger than a normal head or larger than a person and several meters long. In this form, the user can bite their enemies with considerable force and range, the latter due to the great length of the necks. The user also gains quite a bit of stamina in his transformed state, as Orochi was able to take damage from a collapsing roof on his head with minimal damage, as well as surviving thanks to a lightning bolt amplified by Zeus.
The fruit’s multiple heads also allow the user to survive decapitation, even in human form, being limited by the number of heads. Orochi uses this fruit primarily in combat, though he has also been seen using it to intimidate people, as shown when he met with the CP0 and when he confronted Komurasaki. Orochi has also been seen biting his subordinates. His ability allows him to survive decapitation, up to seven times, and he used this to his advantage to launch hidden counterattacks against his unsuspecting enemies.
10. Zou Zou no Mi, Model: Mammoth
Eaten By: Jack the Drought
The Zou Zou no Mi, Model: Mammoth is an Ancient Zoan-type Devil Fruit first appearing on Zou, used by Jack the Drought. It allows its user to transform at will into a mammoth or a hybrid species. This fruit is described by Nekomamushi as an old version of Zou Zou no Mi, a fruit that allows you to transform into an elephant. Jack used this fruit to greatly increase his fighting abilities; he can cause massive destruction with a single attack, being able to destroy buildings with only his trunk, and raze almost anything in his path just by walking. So far, his only attack shown is that he swings his trunk to deal damage. He has massive tusks but he hasn’t used them in combat yet.
9. Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Kyubi no Kitsune
Eaten by: Catarina Devon
The Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Kyubi no Kitsun is a Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit that allows its user to transform into a dog, more precisely into a Nine-Tailed Fox, the Kyubi. It was eaten by Catarina Devon. The hybrid form shows Devon with nine equally sized wide tails. She retains her human arms and her face takes on some fox-like features.
The main strength of this Fruit is that it gives its user the ability to transform into Kyubi, a mythological creature. She can transform into a different person well enough to deceive acquaintances of that person. So far, this Fruit has no weaknesses except for those common to all Devil Fruits. However, it seems that Devon must first transform into a fox if she wants to return to her original appearance. Devon used this Fruit to transform into Absalom and trick Gecko Moria.
8. Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Brachiosaurus
Eaten By: Queen
The Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Brachiosaurus is a prehistoric Zoan-type Devil Fruit that grants its user the power to transform fully or partially into a Brachiosaurus. Queen uses this fruit in combat, preparing to face Charlotte Linlin with his full transformation. He also takes advantage of the long neck that he possesses in this form to catch opponents from a distance.
As a cyborg, Queen is able to augment the capabilities of his Devil Fruit through his technological implants, using both in conjunction to enhance his overall combat prowess. In his beast form, Queen has various weapons equipped to his mouth and upper torso, such as a machine gun, retractable needle-like fangs, a laser beam projector, and an extendable metal collar built into his neck that allows her to stretch further than normal, drastically increasing its reach.
In his Human-Beast form, Queen displays even more visible mechanical appendages, as his hair, tail, and his left arm become mechanical tentacles with claws. Also, since he is now bipedal, he can wield one of her dao swords to combat. This form is considered especially dangerous, as members of the Beasts Pirates panicked and retreated upon seeing him transform into it.
7. Momonosuke’s Artificial Devil Fruit
Eaten By: Momonosuke
Momonosuke consumed a Zoan-type Devil Fruit artificially created by Vegapunk. This fruit transformed him into a serpentine dragon with the ability to fly by grabbing onto self-created clouds. However, as he has only eaten this fruit recently, he doesn’t seem to have much control over it yet, as he didn’t even know that he could change forms, until Luffy told him. Like natural Devil Fruits, Momonosuke is weak to water. When Momonosuke became an adult, his dragon transformation was identical to Kaido’s in size and appearance, except for the color of his skin.
6. Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Pteranodon
Eaten By: King
The Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Pteranodon is a prehistoric Zoan-type Devil Fruit that allows its user to transform into a Pteranodon. It was consumed by King. King uses his ability primarily for aerial combat (aside from the flight power’s general suitability for traveling from one point to another). In his beast form, he is capable of flying at objects with immense speed and force, greatly damaging them in the process.
As she flew toward the Queen Mama Chanter, his leg colliding with the ship (with a flaming kick in the anime) brought down the massive ship, which was carrying numerous members of the Big Mom Pirates, including Big Mom herself, who was taken from the ship. Later, King used his pickaxe to fog Sanji, who was wearing the raid suit, defying the suit’s defenses to the point that King claimed it would split his enemy in half on impact (something didn’t happen thanks to the suit’s strength).
In addition, King’s head can also function as a weapon: by pulling back on his crest, King can fire his head like an extremely fast, oversized bullet, which King has noted is how pteranodons from the ancient past used to hunt their prey.
5. Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Okuchi no Makami
Eaten by: Yamato
The Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Okuchi no Makami is a mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit that allows its user to partially or fully turn into a wolf deity. It was consumed by Yamato. The fruit-shaped fruit resembles an oval persimmon of deep orange color, having only a few of the characteristic spirals sprouting from the center, where pale brown greenery is found. The stem is orange.
The fruit allows its user to transform into the okuchi no makami, a beast-human form of it, which is known in Wano Country as its guardian deity. In its full beast form, its user transforms into a large whitish wolf with very light fur. Transformed into his beast-human form, Yamato gains large whitish fur, as well as canine lower legs and much sharper teeth.
Being a carnivorous Zoan, the fruit gives Yamato a great increase in physical abilities, allowing him to stand up to Kaido. Like many mythical variants, the fruit grants its user special abilities, in this case being able to emit blasts of ice, which can rival a Seiryu’s dragon breath. Weaknesses other than standard ones are unknown.
Yamato uses the power of this fruit for combat. He has shown to be able, in his beast-human form, to fight almost equally against his father Kaido, while the latter was in his hybrid form, with Kaido praising his strength. In Yamato’s hybrid form, he prefers to wield his kanabo like he does in human form (similarly to Kaido), enhancing his hand-to-hand combat prowess.
4. Tori Tori no Mi, Model: Phoenix
Eaten by: Marco
The Tori Tori no Mi, Model: Phoenix is a mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit that allows its user to transform into a phoenix at will. It was consumed by Marco. Marco uses the fruit in combat. In his full phoenix form, he can transform his feet into the claws of a phoenix, which can be used to attack. During the Battle of Marineford, Marco displayed his aerial maneuverability by quickly traversing the battlefield and taking damage from the attack instead of Whitebeard.
Like other Zoan users, he can take a hybrid beast-human form. However, Marco’s control over his transformations seems to be the best of any Zoan user shown thus far, as unlike most other Zoan users (Laffitte, Chopper, and Onigumo possibly being the only exceptions known), Marco can transform selective parts of his body into the form of a phoenix without changing his entire appearance.
In his most commonly seen hybrid form, Marco only transforms his arms into phoenix wings (sometimes he chooses to keep his hands) so he can fly and attack with kicks. Marco also takes full advantage of the fruit’s regenerative properties during combat and uses it often. He has even been seen to recover using scattered flames and simultaneously turning into his human form.
Despite the fact that it cannot be used as an offensive weapon, he can still summon the blue flames around him, in his human form (possibly partially changing into his hybrid form or full phoenix form), as seen when he filled his arm of blue flames as he prepared to face Akainu. As flames can be used to heal others, he used them in his work as a doctor on Sphinx Island, as well as in the raid on Onigashima to heal victims of the ice oni virus.
3. Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Daibutsu
Eaten by: Sengoku
The Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Daibutsu is a mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit that grants the power to turn a gigantic golden Buddha statue at will. It was consumed by the former admiral of the Marine fleet, Sengoku. Until now, Sengoku has been seen using this fruit mainly for combat purposes, to enhance the power of his fists, a power that was demonstrated when he made Luffy bleed and destroyed the execution platform.
Sengoku can launch shockwaves to deal heavy, widespread damage to a group of enemies, and are strong enough to damage Blackbeard Pirates level pirates. In the anime, these shockwaves have been shown to be powerful enough to collide with the waves created by Marshall D. Teach’s Gura Gura no Mi.
When Sengoku first used the powers of this fruit, in an attempt to execute both Luffy and Ace, a Marine pointed out that it was the first time he had seen Sengoku use his powers, suggesting that he rarely sees himself. transform. At the time of his transformation, all of Marineford was bathed in blinding golden light, highlighting the idea that Sengoku is an “enlightened one”.
2. Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu
Eaten by: Kaidou
The Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu is a mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit that allows its user to fully or partially transform into an Eastern Dragon, specifically the Azure Dragon (Seiryu). It was consumed by Kaidou. The fruit is somewhat pointed and is made up of several pointed pieces similar to the scales of a dragon, being cyan in color with a darker interior, where the spirals are found. It has orange greenery at its base and, unlike the rest of the devil fruits, it has a double purple stem.
Kaidou uses this fruit frequently in combat. Unlike most Zoan-type fruit users seen so far, he normally starts battles in his full transformation and returns to his original form, as his base form seems more suited to close one-on-one combat. When he faces opponents in his full dragon form, Kaidou stands a considerable distance away from them in order to assault them with destructive elemental attacks launched from his mouth, usually using a fire blast. He has also been seen biting nearby opponents.
Outside of combat, Kaidou can create clouds, primarily using them as footholds to take flight; this way, he can easily travel between islands by crossing the open sea as he did between Onigashima and the main island of Wano. He can also levitate objects, even giants, by creating enough clouds, as shown when he sent the entire island of Onigashima aloft to continue his New Onigashima Project, lifting the island and directing it towards the Flower Capital of Wano Country.
1. Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika
Eaten by: Monkey D. Luffy
The Gomu Gomu no Mi, originally known as the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, is a mythical Zoan-type devil fruit that allows the user to transform into the incarnation of the legendary “Sun God” Nika and thus obtain a body with the properties of rubber. When renamed, it was also reclassified as a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that apparently transformed its user into a rubbery human.
Originally, it was a highly sought-after treasure of the World Government for 800 years until it was stolen by Shanks and his crew. It was accidentally consumed twelve years ago by Monkey D. Luffy. The awakening of this devil fruit allows its user to inherit the title of “Joy Boy”. The Gomu Gomu no Mi is a violet spherical fruit, with a stem sprouting from the top, with swirls going in a curly “S” shape. In general, it resembles a Yubari melon.
During his youth, Luffy had trouble controlling his own abilities. Even though he had an idea of how they would work, Luffy had trouble aiming at the target and timing his attacks; continually, his own techniques recoiled. However, he managed to counteract these weaknesses, training in a dangerous jungle in which he managed to control his ability in his youth. The fruit’s powers have been used by Luffy in a variety of ways. These range from simply moving from one place to another (in a rather reckless way), to attacking an enemy with a barrage of fast and powerful blows.
He has also developed various peculiar fighting methods over time, achieving new “forms” by manipulating his elastic body. The most prominent is his gears, which allow him to momentarily increase his speed or strength in combat. After the time skip, Luffy learned to control and harness his power much better, as well as how to combine it with Haki.
