‘Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story’ Announces US Release Date:“This Film Is an Extraordinary Story”
‘Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story’ is a 2024 documentary directed by Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui. It delves into Christopher Reeve’s life after his accident and his advocacy for disability rights. The film, a collaboration between British and American entities, was co-produced by Words+Pictures, Passion Pictures, and Misfits Entertainment, with Warner Bros Pictures handling distribution.
It premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival on January 19, 2024, and was subsequently acquired by Warner Bros. Discovery for $15 million. The documentary garnered acclaim, with James Gunn from DC Studios expressing being “emotionally floored” by its portrayal.
Deadline recently announced that the film is set for a limited theatrical release on September 21, with a special encore screening planned on the late actor’s birthday, September 25.
The original 1978 ‘Superman’ movie catapulted Christopher Reeve to everlasting fame, chronicling Superman’s journey from his infancy on Krypton to his heroic exploits in Metropolis. The star-studded cast included Marlon Brando, Gene Hackman, Margot Kidder, among others. ‘Superman’ held the distinction of being the most expensive film ever made at that time, with a budget of $55 million.
Jeff Goldstein, President of Domestic Distribution at Warner Bros. Pictures, issued the following statement:
On behalf of not only Warner Bros., but also my colleagues at DC, HBO and CNN, it’s an honor to be a part of bringing Christopher Reeve and his singular legacy to audiences again. It was at this very studio where he made us all believe a man could fly, and this documentary reveals what made him a true hero, on- and off-screen. Partnering with our friends at Fathom Events to deliver this very special film to the big screen was an opportunity we could not pass up.
The nationwide release date for the movie is still pending. Have something to contribute? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
