Switch 2 Game File Sizes Revealed — Some Third-Party Titles Take Up Big Space

The Nintendo Switch 2 is on the way, and as a next-generation console, it will offer better graphics and bigger games. But that also means these games will take up more space on the system. We now have new details on how large some of these games might be — and some of them are pretty big!

Thanks to a report shared by Necro Felipe of Universo Nintendo (via GoNintendo), we’ve gotten a look at the estimated file sizes for several third-party games expected to launch on the Switch 2. Here’s how much space some of these games might need:

  • Fortnite – 29.5 GB
  • Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition – 56.8 GB
  • HITMAN World of Assassination Signature Edition – 61 GB
  • Split Fiction – 71 GB
  • Street Fighter 6 – 48.8 GB

These sizes are quite a bit larger than what we’re used to seeing on the original Switch. Many third-party games are becoming more detailed and complex, and that’s one reason for the larger file sizes.

On the other hand, Nintendo’s own games are still expected to be smaller in size. One of the lighter games mentioned is Donkey Kong Bananza, which is said to take up about 10 GB. That’s pretty small compared to the third-party titles.

The biggest first-party game at launch from Nintendo seems to be Mario Kart World, which is expected to use around 23.4 GB of space. That’s still much smaller than something like Split Fiction, which could use over 70 GB.

If you’re worried about running out of space, don’t worry — the Switch 2 will come with 256 GB of internal storage. That’s a decent amount, but with bigger games, it can fill up quickly.

Thankfully, Nintendo will allow users to expand the storage using a Micro SD Express card. This means you’ll be able to buy more space if you need it, which will be very helpful if you plan to download lots of large games.
