It’s been exactly a month since ‘Madame Web’ was released, intended as the next installment in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, albeit without Spider-Man. The film aimed to explore popular side-characters but ended up being a significant setback for the studio, turning into a subject of memes. Despite hopes, it became both a commercial and box office failure, falling short of ‘Morbius,’ the previous low bar-holder in the SSU.

Cast members are handling the aftermath in their own ways. Sweeney, who portrayed Julia Carpenter, one of the Spider-Women, joked about the movie lightly, while her co-star Dakota Johnson (Cassandra Web) addressed the situation more seriously, urging film studio executives to reconsider their creative direction. Johnson reportedly faced backlash for her statements, with industry insiders suggesting it might be challenging for her to regain favor with Sony.

In a surprising revelation during her interview with ComicBook.com, Sydney Sweeney expressed her willingness to reprise her role as Julia Carpenter in the Spider-Verse, particularly if she gets to share the screen with Zendaya.

Sweeney and Zendaya previously showcased their acting chemistry in the HBO Drama ‘Euphoria.’ However, it’s doubtful they’ll meet in Spider-Man movies, especially with the disappointment of ‘Madame Web,’ which likely dashed hopes for a sequel. Nonetheless, there’s speculation that Sweeney and her ‘Madame Web’ co-stars could eventually crossover to the MCU, possibly alongside SSU’s Venom.

Initially expressing interest in a sequel, Dakota Johnson later retracted her statement, stating she wouldn’t return. Sweeney’s press response suggests she may not feel deeply connected to her character and doesn’t shoulder much responsibility for the movie’s failure.
