Movie soundtracks have a strange kind of power. A song can exist quietly for months, embraced by a devoted fanbase but never quite breaking through, until one perfectly placed scene sends it rocketing into a completely different stratosphere.

That is exactly what has happened for Kevin Parker’s long-running project Tame Impala, which has spent nearly two decades building one of modern psychedelic rock’s most respected catalogs. Despite that run of acclaim, one particular milestone had always managed to stay just out of reach.

That changed this week. “Loser,” a track from Tame Impala’s 2025 album ‘Deadbeat,’ has reached number one on Spotify’s Daily Global chart, marking the very first time in the project’s history that it has topped that ranking.

The song’s climb has been remarkably fast. “Loser” re-entered Spotify’s Daily Global chart on August 2 at a new career peak of number 87 with 1.507 million streams, before climbing day by day as audiences connected the track to its use in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

That box office connection has proven enormously effective. On the Billboard Global 200, “Loser” vaulted from number 51 to number 5, with streams jumping 72 percent to roughly 30 million worldwide in a single tracking week.

The song’s momentum has not been limited to global streaming charts either. “Loser” also returned to the Billboard Hot 100, climbing to a new peak after originally debuting at number 91 back in November 2025 following the release of ‘Deadbeat.’

Much of that renewed attention traces directly back to the film itself, which Billboard reported had cleared $2 billion globally within its first three weekends of release. With a hit that size drawing audiences into theaters worldwide, the songs woven into its soundtrack were always going to get a serious spotlight, and “Loser” has clearly been the biggest beneficiary.

This new Spotify milestone adds to what has already been a standout stretch for ‘Deadbeat’ as a whole. Earlier this year, the album’s “Dracula,” boosted by a remix featuring Jennie, became Tame Impala’s first-ever top ten hit on both the Hot 100 and the Global 200, along with a run atop pop and hot AC radio charts.

With “Loser” now delivering the project’s first Spotify global number one, ‘Deadbeat’ has quietly become one of the most successful rollouts of Parker’s career. The album has even started generating early buzz as a potential Album of the Year contender heading into awards season.

What makes “Loser’s” run especially notable is how directly it traces back to a single film placement. The track had been available for nearly a year before ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ gave it new life, proving that a well-timed soundtrack sync can still completely reshape a song’s trajectory long after its original release.

Whether “Loser” can hold onto the top spot as the film continues its theatrical run remains to be seen, but for now, Tame Impala has officially claimed a chart milestone that had eluded the project since Kevin Parker first started making music under that name. For longtime fans who have watched this slow-burn rise for years, the moment feels well earned.
