The Acolyte’s Sith Lord Revelation Treads Dangerously Close to Breaking Canon

Episode 5 of ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ has finally been released, and after two lackluster episodes, it delivered a punch. This week’s installment was packed with action and startling twists.

The highlight of the episode was undoubtedly the reveal of the Sith Lord. Many fans, including myself, had theorized that Qimir was the one behind the mask ever since his character’s introduction. This choice was controversial, given the somewhat clumsy handling of the mystery surrounding the Sith’s identity.

The major controversy of episode 4 revolves around breaking canon by featuring a Sith Lord openly battling Jedi, contradicting Mundi’s assertion during ‘Phantom Menace’ that the Sith had been extinct for millennia.

Two proposed solutions failed to address this issue. First, it was suggested that ‘The Master’ might be a different type of dark force user, not a Sith. However, in Episode 5, Qimir unequivocally identifies himself as a Sith, emphasizing his desire for freedom to wield his powers.

Second, there was speculation that The Master would eliminate all Jedi present to prevent news of the incident from reaching the Jedi Council.

This did indeed happen, with only Master Sol and former Jedi Osha surviving the episode. Osha is now in Qimir’s custody, her twin having assumed her identity and left for Coruscant with Sol.

Clearly, Master Sol will have to report that his Jedi unit was decimated by a self-proclaimed Sith. The only hope to maintain the current canon rests with Master Vernestra Rwoh.

Vernestra has expressed reluctance to report to the High Council due to the political implications of answering to the Republic Senate. What does this suggest? They may attempt to resolve the issue independently, keeping it secret, but this could lead to their eventual demise as well.

Their secrecy is likely a response to their distrust of politics, which Mae and Qimir may exploit. Additionally, Master Sol seems unwilling to disclose the truth, possibly due to hints of a past issue raised in Episode 5. How they will explain the deaths of numerous Jedi on what seemed like a routine mission to the Council remains uncertain.

While the show hasn’t technically violated canon yet, it teeters on the edge, pending the actions of Rwoh and Sol in the next episode.
