Practical effects and stunt work have become one of Matt Reeves’ calling cards since he reimagined Gotham City for 2022’s ‘The Batman,’ and the sequel appears to be doubling down on that same grounded approach. Fans have spent weeks piecing together scattered set photos from the film’s Glasgow shoot, trying to guess what kind of story Reeves is building this time around.

Much of that speculation has centered on the film’s wintry setting, with Christmas decorations and rumors of a New Year’s Eve gathering pointing toward a story set well after the flood that devastated Gotham in the previous film. That aftermath has already been explored through the spinoff series ‘The Penguin,’ but the sequel appears ready to pick up threads of its own.

Now a new set video has given fans their most thrilling glimpse yet of the film in action. Footage from the Glasgow shoot shows the Batmobile performing donuts through snow-covered streets, with a camera rig mounted to the back of the vehicle capturing its engine roaring at full volume.

The clip offers a striking visual contrast to the rain-soaked, neon-lit Gotham audiences saw in the first film. With snow blanketing the streets and holiday decorations reportedly spotted nearby, the sequel appears to be embracing an entirely different visual mood for this next chapter of Bruce Wayne’s story.

Alongside the Batmobile, a GCPD SWAT van was also visible in the footage, along with several other Gotham police vehicles positioned nearby. Given past reporting that the Batmobile will sustain significant damage at some point in the film, having police vehicles in close proximity suggests Gotham’s law enforcement may once again find itself at odds with the Caped Crusader.

The sheer physicality of the stunt work on display, with the Batmobile visibly drifting and skidding through snow under its own power rather than through digital effects, reinforces just how committed Reeves remains to grounded, tactile action sequences. That approach helped define the tone of the first film, and this new footage suggests the sequel isn’t backing away from it.

Production is currently underway across Glasgow, with filming expected to continue for roughly three weeks before wrapping in early September. The Scottish city has once again been transformed into Gotham, having already served as the backdrop for the original film’s key locations.

Robert Pattinson returns as Bruce Wayne and Batman, working once again under Reeves’ direction from a script he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin. Jeffrey Wright is back as Jim Gordon, joined by Andy Serkis reprising his role as Alfred Pennyworth and Colin Farrell returning as Oswald Cobblepot.

The sequel also brings in a wave of new additions to Gotham’s roster, including Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, Charles Dance, and Brian Tyree Henry, though specific role details remain closely guarded. With plot specifics still under wraps, fans have continued speculating about how deeply the story might dig into corruption within Gotham’s justice system.

‘The Batman: Part II’ isn’t set to arrive until 2028, leaving plenty of time for more set footage to leak before the film’s marketing campaign officially begins. Even so, glimpses like this latest Batmobile clip are giving fans plenty to analyze in the meantime.

Between the snowy setting, the returning ensemble, and the sheer scale of practical stunt work already on display, expectations for this sequel continue climbing well ahead of its actual release. Whatever storyline Reeves has planned, it’s clear the production isn’t holding back on delivering spectacle straight from the source.
