At the end of 2023, the DCEU ended and was replaced by Gunn and Safran’s new DCU. Most of the old projects were canceled, and many actors were let go. However, Matt Reeves’ Batman Universe, which was developing separately from the DCEU, survived. ‘The Batman’ was meant to be the first movie in a trilogy, and soon after, ‘The Batman – Part II’ was announced.

In December 2021, Robert Pattinson and Matt Reeves talked about ideas for future Batman films, like introducing Robin and the Court of Owls as villains. In April 2022, Warner Bros. confirmed the next Batman movie with Matt Reeves directing and Robert Pattinson returning. There were updates throughout 2022 and 2023 about returning cast members, villains, and production plans.

The sequel, ‘The Batman: Part II,’ was originally set for release in October 2025. However, due to industry strikes, there were delays, though production details, including the return of key cast and crew, were still being shared. A few months ago it was announced that the movie would be delayed by a year and it was scheduled to be released on October 2, 2026.

Today, the movie was once more delayed by an entire year. The movie now has a release date of October 1, 2027. The reasons for the delay aren’t clear currently but recently both Gunn and Reeves confirmed that the script is still not over, with Gunn commenting he is eagerly awaiting it.

Later today, Andy Muschietti also confirmed that ‘Batman: The Brave and the Bold’ DCU’s take on Batman is also ” a little bit” delayed. He revealed he will be working on a new sci-fi movie in the meantime.

Tom Cruise’s next movie will take the place of ‘The Batman 2′ on Warner Bros.’ schedule. Also, the release dates for ‘Sinners’ and ‘Mickey 17’ are switching between March and April.
