Of course, we all know that this series is a massive undertaking on the part of Amazon Prime Video, especially after purchasing The Lord of the Rings from the Tolkien estate for $250 million. In that regard, we know that this is a multi-season series, and we are still in the first season. So, when will The Rings of Power season 2 be released?

As of this writing, there is nothing about the release date of The Lord of the Rings: The Ring of Power season 2. The only thing we know is that season 2 has already been confirmed, as the series is set to have five confirmed seasons. However, we don’t know anything other than that.

Similar to how the series has been quite secretive in its approach to what will happen next and who Sauron is, everything about season 2 of The Rings of Power is also a secret. Ever since The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power was released, Amazon has been cashing in on the $250 million purchase price they paid for the adaptation rights of JRR Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. That means that The Rings of Power has been incredibly successful and is only going to become more successful not only in terms of its viewership but also when it comes to the potential profits waiting for Amazon.

Of course, we know that The Rings of Power will have multiple seasons due to the fact that one season is never going to be enough to make up for the $250 million that was paid for the rights of The Lord of the Rings. That’s why the entire series is set to have five seasons throughout its entire lifetime. On top of that, the total budget that has been estimated for The Rings of Power is at least $500 million, and that means that there is a good chance that the total expenses for this series could reach a billion dollars.

Now that we have gotten past the numbers already, it is now easy for you to understand why The Rings of Power will have multiple seasons. Out of the five seasons that the series will have, we are still in the first, and that means that we still have a long way to go before The Rings of Power concludes. So, when is the second season of The Rings of Power going to be released?

As of this moment, we know nothing about when season 2 of The Rings of Power will be released because there hasn’t been anything released by Amazon Prime Video or the showrunners regarding the status of the second season. However, what we do know is that the series should already be filming its second season because the original schedule for the season 2 filming was October of 2022.

But while there are a lot of series that can wrap up filming and production in a span of a few months and get the series ready for a release just half a year after filming began, let’s not forget that The Rings of Power is an entirely different series that requires a lot of work. The acting and the filming themselves should wrap up in a few months but what takes time is the post-production processes, such as the visual effects. That’s why the VFX team and the makeup and costume designers behind The Rings of Power tend to work double time for the series.

In that regard, it should be possible for us to see season 2 of The Rings of Power sometime in 2024, and that means that there will be about a two-year wait for fans of the series. This isn’t like any other series, mind you, because of how heavy it is on the visuals and how it takes a lot of time for the team to actually produce the amazing effects that we see in the series. That’s why we would have to wait for a long time before season 2 gets released, as it is possible for it to get released early in 2024 or sometime in the middle of that year.

What We Know About The Rings Of Power Season 2

We are still in the middle of the first season of The Rings of Power, and a lot of us still don’t know a lot about what is going to happen and what will eventually happen to the different characters involved in the series. The only thing we know about season 2 is that it is confirmed, as five seasons have already been planned for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

Again, it is unlikely that we are going to see a 2023 release date for the second season of The Rings of Power because we are still in the early stages of the production for season 2. Post-production will take a lot of time, and that means that it is more likely that the series will be released on Amazon Prime Video sometime in 2024.

What Could The Rings Of Power Season 2 Be About?

What we learned about The Rings of Power in its first season is that the storyline is not just the origin story for the Rings of Power and the One Ring, but it is also the origin story for Sauron’s rise to power and for Mordor itself. After all, we witnessed the birth of Mordor because of how Orodruin erupted and changed the landscape of the Southlands in episode 6. We also know that Orodruin is now Mount Doom.

There’s also the fact that the series is yet to reveal the identity of Sauron, as we still have two episodes left for the first season. At this point, we aren’t really sure whether or not Sauron’s whereabouts and identity will be revealed in season 1, even though we already have a few ideas on what happened to him and who he could be.

As such, if we aren’t going to see Sauron in season 1, there is a good chance that the second season will dwell on him. But it is also possible that the big reveal in the finale of the first season will focus on Sauron’s identity. And that means that the second season might focus more on the other notable events of the Second Age, such as the Fall of Númenor or the founding of Gondor and Arnor on Middle-Earth.

There are also other angles that the second season could take, such as the creation of the Rings of Power and Sauron’s other devious schemes throughout his rise to power during the Second Age.

In short, we don’t know what season 2 will be about unless we see what’s going to happen at the end of the first season. There are simply a lot of different angles that the series could take regarding the different events that happened in the Second Age of Middle-Earth.
