The ‘Supergirl’ Cape Cup Spotted at Cinemas in Europe and Asia Is the Blockbuster Merch Drop DC Fans Needed
With DC Studios building considerable momentum heading into one of its biggest summers in recent memory, the marketing machine behind ‘Supergirl‘ has been operating at full throttle. The film stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El and marks the second entry in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s rebooted DC Universe, directed by Craig Gillespie and based on the celebrated ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ comic series. Tickets are already on sale with Fan First Screenings set for June 24, followed by the official North American opening on June 26, with the international rollout also kicking off June 24.
The promotional rollout has been sprawling. Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products launched a wide global merchandise collection ahead of the film, developed in collaboration with licensees and retail partners spanning collectibles, apparel, toys, and home goods, with products available through major retailers including Funko, McFarlane Toys, Mattel, and the DC Shop. DC Studios also partnered with Regal Cinemas on exclusive theatrical concessions, with the lineup including limited-edition popcorn buckets, specialty drinkware, and branded collectible items designed to enhance the in-theater experience.
Now, fans outside the United States are getting their own piece of the action. A video shared on X, originally captured by Mikhail Villarreal, shows a striking collectible drink cup available at select cinemas across Europe and Asia. The cup is styled in Supergirl’s signature blue and red color palette, complete with a miniature flowing red cape attached to its body, echoing Kara’s iconic look. It is a genuinely eye-catching piece of theater merchandise that has quickly made the rounds online.
Stateside, the theater collectible wave has been similarly impressive, with AMC offering an S-shield-shaped popcorn bucket with a Supergirl lanyard, a logo-shaped collectible bucket, a souvenir cup based on Supergirl in her trench coat, and a Krypto plush, while Regal’s standout item is a large-format sculptural container of Lobo riding his Spacehog motorcycle. The cape-adorned cup circulating online from international venues adds yet another dimension to a collectible campaign that has clearly been engineered with global fans in mind.
The buzz around ‘Supergirl’ has not been without its complications. The lead-up to release has been one of the most argued-over campaigns of the year, with debates over the film’s budget, its box office prospects, and its star dominating online discourse. Alcock herself has addressed the scrutiny head-on, telling Vanity Fair “of course I’m scared” but adding that she ultimately cannot control public reaction and can only be herself.
DC Studios has continued pushing the excitement with real-world activations, including the Intergalactic Station pop-up at The Grove in Los Angeles on June 6, where Alcock appeared alongside co-star Jason Momoa and screenwriter Ana Nogueira for an immersive fan experience featuring interactive installations, exclusive merchandise, themed photo opportunities, and a close-up look at the Spacehog vehicle from the film. The global theater merchandise, including that cape cup now turning heads across European and Asian cinemas, feels very much like an extension of that same energy, bringing Kara’s world to audiences wherever they happen to be sitting when the lights go down.
