‘Thunderbolts*’ Set for Reshoots Despite Studio’s Positive Feedback

Thunderbolts* is one of the most anticipated projects in the MCU. The film will feature a team of former villains and anti-heroes, similar to DC’s Suicide Squad, who are now trying to follow a better path in the MCU.
The movie will also introduce Sentry, one of Marvel’s most powerful characters, played by Lewis Pullman. The team’s lineup includes familiar faces: David Harbour as Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Wyatt Russell as John Walker (U.S. Agent), Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, and Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, the MCU’s new Black Widow.
While the plot remains largely under wraps, the official synopsis hints that the Thunderbolts will take on various missions, only to discover they are being set up to clash with one another.
The movie reportedly had a recent test screening, and the feedback was very positive. Yelena is said to be the main character, while Sentry’s costume is mostly comic-accurate with a few changes.
Test audiences were especially impressed by the action scenes and the tone, which feels similar to Captain America: Brave New World. Based on fan reactions to the first promotional materials, this seems believable—but we won’t know for sure until the movie comes out.
Now, industry insider Daniel Richtman has shared that, even though the studio is happy with the movie overall, it’s still set for reshoots.
This information came from a private paid newsletter, but the reasons for the reshoots haven’t been shared yet.
There’s no need to worry, as reshoots are a normal part of the filmmaking process. They’re often done to adjust scenes, add new ones, or refine the story once the movie is put together during editing.
Sometimes, reshoots are used to respond to test audience feedback or align the movie with the studio’s vision. These types of reshoots tend to be more extensive and expensive.
