‘Thunderbolts*’ Trailer Offers a First Look at Sentry’s Watchtower
The ‘Thunderbolts*’ trailer was recently released. While leaks and clips have been circulating since its debut at the D23 event, we now have a clearer view of the hints and characters featured in the film.
‘Thunderbolts’ will introduce the MCU’s version of the Suicide Squad to the broader universe and will also showcase one of the most powerful characters in Marvel Comics—Sentry.
Recently, we explored an intriguing theory suggesting that Sentry will be a manufactured superhero in the MCU. This idea stems from the “blueprints” visible in one of the trailer scenes.
If you pay close attention, you can see various options for customizing Sentry’s hair and belt buckle, with the possibility of even more features being included in the film that weren’t shown in the trailer.
The trailer also provided our first glimpse of blueprints labeled “The Watchtower,” which almost certainly references Sentry’s Watchtower from the comics.
The Watchtower served as Sentry’s home and headquarters, located in midtown Manhattan near Columbus Circle. It was a tall structure with a large golden sphere on top and black crossing fins.
An artificial intelligence named CLOC managed the Watchtower, overseeing global communications and alerting Sentry to major emergencies.
When Sentry was defeated by his arch-nemesis, the General, he used his powers to make everyone on Earth forget him, causing the Watchtower to be “ignored” and effectively disappear for decades.
Later, Tony Stark decided to construct a new office tower and unknowingly chose the Watchtower’s location. Consequently, the Watchtower was integrated into Stark Tower, remaining unnoticed due to Sentry’s powers. Initially, Stark Tower housed the New Avengers, who eventually recruited Sentry. Once they broke through his mental blocks, the Watchtower “reappeared,” surprising many in Manhattan.
All clues suggest that Sentry’s Watchtower will be created from the former Avengers Tower.
Spider-Man: Homecoming revealed that Tony Stark planned to sell Avengers Tower, with Happy Hogan managing the relocation of equipment while the Vulture attempted to steal it.
In Spider-Man: Far From Home, the building is shown undergoing renovations. In the Thunderbolts trailer, the new team in the MCU can be seen gathering in what looks like a remodeled Avengers Tower. Since the Thunderbolts answer to Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, fans correctly speculated that she was behind the tower’s purchase.
The question of who bought the Avengers Tower has been active in the community, and now we have an idea of its fate, assuming our theory that the Watchtower will emerge from Avengers Tower proves accurate.
