‘Tiger & Bunny’ is a Japanese anime series that combines elements of superhero action, comedy, and drama. It was produced by Sunrise and directed by Keiichi Satou. The series originally aired in 2011. The story is set in a futuristic city called Sternbild City, where certain individuals known as NEXT possess superpowers. These NEXT individuals, also called “Heroes,” compete in a reality TV show called “Hero TV,” where they earn points for capturing criminals and saving civilians. The Heroes are sponsored by various companies, and their performances are broadcast for the public’s entertainment.

The timeline of ‘Tiger & Bunny’ franchise is relatively simple and follows the release order to a t.

1.‘Tiger & Bunny’ Season 1 (2011)

In the city of Stern Bild, super-powered individuals known as NEXT compete for popularity on Hero TV, including veteran hero Kotetsu “Wild Tiger” Kaburagi and newcomer Barnaby “Bunny” Brooks Jr. When Kotetsu’s sponsor company is taken over, he is forced to adopt a new look and reluctantly partner with Barnaby. As they face challenges, including a telekinetic boy threatening the city, Kotetsu recalls his inspiration for becoming a hero and convinces the boy to use his powers for good.

2. ‘Tiger & Bunny: The Beginning’ (2012)

In the first half of the film, events from the initial two episodes of the TV series are retold, and Kotetsu “Wild Tiger” Kaburagi attempts to facilitate unity among the heroes, but their rivalry persists. The heroes are then tasked with apprehending a thief named Robin Baxter, who possesses the ability to instantly switch places with anyone he sees, leading to challenging confrontations.

In a strategic move, Barnaby uses his suit as a decoy to outsmart Robin, and afterward, he discovers that Kotetsu has convinced the other heroes to trust Barnaby, highlighting their growing camaraderie.

3. ‘Tiger & Bunny: The Rising’

Sometime after the series, Kotetsu and Barnaby are part of the Second League, training new heroes. However, the league faces challenges, with only Barnaby succeeding in bringing criminals to justice. Apollon Media considers cuts, but the arrival of CEO Mark Schneider and foreign NEXT hero Golden Ryan averts the crisis, promoting Barnaby and dissolving the Second League, leading to Kotetsu’s dismissal. As the Festival of Justice approaches, mysterious incidents occur, echoing a legend about the Goddess of Justice and involving three enigmatic new NEXT.

4. “Tiger & Bunny: Too Many Cooks Spoil the Broth”

“Tiger & Bunny: Too Many Cooks Spoil the Broth” is an 18-minute special OVA episode that was released with the Blu-ray edition of the concert ‘The Sound of Tiger & Bunny.’

5. ‘Tiger & Bunny’ Season 2 (2022)

On December 24th, 1980, Barnaby Brooks Jr. faces defeat against two opponents. Two months earlier, on October 8th, 1980, Hero TV follows a crime involving robbers and an armored car, showcasing the teamwork of various heroes in apprehending the criminals. The superheroes then attend a Hero TV party to celebrate the success of the buddy system, but tensions rise between Barnaby and Tiger, leading to Barnaby deciding to stop speaking to Tiger, while the future of the superhero system is discussed among sponsors.

Netflix has both seasons of ‘Tiger & Bunny’ anime and both movies. The first season of the anime can also be streamed on Hulu, Crunchyroll, Peacock, Hoopla, Tubi, and Pluto TV.

Will there be more ‘Tiger & Bunny’ seasons?

On October 9, 2015, Sunrise announced a live-action Hollywood film adaptation of Tiger & Bunny, produced by Ron Howard and Brian Grazer through Imagine Entertainment, Masayuki Ozaki from Bandai Namco Pictures, and Sanford Climan and Annmarie Bailey through All Nippon Entertainment Works. The film will be developed by Global Road Entertainment, with Erica Huggins overseeing the project. As of 2023, there is no news regarding the movie.

Additionally, Namco-Bandai and SK Global are working on a live-action Tiger and Bunny series, with M. Raven Metzner serving as the writer and show-runner.
