Tokyo Revengers: Is Kisaki a Time Leaper?
And while Tokyo Revengers can certainly be described as one of the best yanki series of our times – especially since such series have become less popular in the 21st century – the series transcends the genre in many ways. The time travel part, combined with the complex timelines present in the series, is one of the best examples of that, and in this article, we are going to discuss it, but not in the most direct way imaginable. Namely, in this article, we will discuss the Time Leapers of Tokyo Revengers, as you will find out whether Tetta Kisaki, one of the main antagonists in the series, is a Time Leaper or not.
There are only three Time Leapers in Tokyo Revengers
As fans of the series will know, Tokyo Revengers is a series heavily based on the concept of time travel, and the main character from the series has traveled back in time on more than one occasion to fix the timeline tragedies and save the future and the present. Now, the concept has been explained in the series that certain characters can travel back in time once they come into contact with a certain person.
Now, the details of this time-traveling ability have not been properly explained, and from what we can gather, it is an ad hoc supernatural ability that is tied to one person at a time. That person seemingly has limited control over the ability in that he cannot really control when he goes back every time, but he seems to be able to figure out how to do it.
What happens with the timelines hasn’t been explained, but we know that the character who can travel back in time can alter the past and thus change the future; whether this creates a new timeline completely or just changes the existing timeline is not really known. But we do know that changes are possible.
Those characters who are able to use this ability are known as Time Leapers, and the series has identified three of them:
- The Time Leaper, the homeless man, was the first identified user of this ability. Although his exact identity and background are unclear, it is known that he was a homeless man from whom Sano stole the power to travel across time. He had an extremely crazy appearance, and his actions strongly suggested that he had really become insane as a result of his talent. The Time Leaper asserted that the power was extremely difficult to obtain and that he had killed the previous bearer, which served as evidence of his ability to use the power. He made fun of Shin’ichir’s motivations for seeking power because Sano had simply intended to use it to save his brother.
- Mikey, Emma, and Izana’s elder brother Shin’ichiro Sano, founded the first iteration of the Black Dragon. Although his fighting skills were poor and his mentality resembled Takemichi’s, he was proud of his outstanding charisma. As the man who started the Black Dragon, he was well-liked in Japan’s criminal underworld. He was a big brother to all three of his brothers and led the gang with a modest heart while also being accorded exceptional respect. Members of the generations that followed him still think highly of him even many years after his passing. On August 13, 2003, he passed away. He killed the homeless man, and he was the one who took his talent.
- Takemichi Hanagaki is the third and current Time Leaper in the series. Since he is the protagonist, he doesn’t need a special introduction.
We can assume that there are more, as the homeless man was not designated as the first-ever Time Leaper, so there were probably others, but the series has never identified them.
Tetta Kisaki was never a Time Leaper, but he was almost omnipresent throughout the series
So, having said all of this, what does this tell us about Tetta Kisaki and his role in the series? First, let us see who Tetta Kisaki is for those not completely acquainted with the character and his overall role in the story.
Until his demise in the Kanto Incident, Tetta Kisaki served as Tokyo Revengers‘ primary villain. He is particularly well-known for his meteoric climb through Toman’s ranks and for planning Hinata Tachibana’s multiple assassinations. Kisaki was first mentioned at the very beginning of the manga, in a conversation that Takemichi and Naoto had early on in the series. According to the latter, Kisaki and Manjiro Sano definitely could not cross paths in July 2005 because that would result in the Toman of 2017 becoming a very dangerous gang and Hinata dying.
Takemichi “hijacks” Ken Ryuguji and Mikey’s attention after going through time, preventing them from meeting. However, Tetta Kisaki replaced Pachin as the captain of the third division following the incident involving the leader of Moebius, Osanai, and after the event at the block party on August 3 and the reunion of Moebius and the Tokyo Manjikai.
Events in 2017 were a little hazy. Naoto informs us that Kisaki has replaced Mikey as interim leader of Toman. Before that, he had stood in for Ken, who had been given a death sentence for a crime he had committed.
Kisaki terrorizes Atsushi, a friend from Takemichi’s youth. He was so worn out from the tension and dread the acting gang leader instilled in him that he committed suicide twice in 2017. Therefore, we can see why Kisaki is a terrifyingly intimidating leader. He unintentionally encourages his lieutenants to commit suicide since his behavior and demeanor are so terrifying. In addition, Kisaki is a cold-blooded killer. Kisaki has demonstrated his skill as an assassin, whether acting alone or via Kazutora or Draken.
As you can see, Kisaki had a very important role in the series, but we can confirm that he was never a Time Leaper. His role is significant as he has been an enemy in many timelines, but we can confirm that he was never a Time Leaper in the series.
