Tulsa King Filming Locations Revealed: Where Is the Show Filmed?
Tulsa King is a crime drama TV series that follows New York mafia capo Dwight “The General” Manfredi (Sylvester Stallone). After spending 25 years in prison, Manfredi is exiled to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he intends to rebuild his empire. When he finds himself in a different surrounding than what he is used to, Manfredi has no choice but to surround himself with some new associates. So, the storyline is set in Tulsa, but let’s see what Tulsa King’s filming locations are.
Tulsa King was filmed in various locations in Oklahoma City and Tulsa. Other surrounding areas are also included in the shooting. The filming began in March of 2022 and is set to premiere on November 13, 2022, on Paramount Plus.
Various locations in Oklahoma City and Tulsa were used for this series. Oklahoma area is known for sunny weather and high temperatures. The summer of 2022 was one of the hottest ones, and very high temperatures were measured in Oklahoma this summer. Because of it, Stallone jokingly stated that Oklahoma weather prepared him for a lifetime in hell if he ever gets sent there.
While shooting in Oklahoma City, background performers were needed to portray various characters, such as bikers and blue-collar partiers. They also needed cars and trucks to fill the bar’s parking lot. However, not all kinds of vehicles were allowed, as muscle cars and classic cars were out of the question for the set.
‘Tulsa King’ was originally named ‘Kansas City
The show was originally called ‘Kansas City, and the plan was to shoot the series in Missouri and Kansas. However, the show creators decided that those places do not offer incentives for studios. Tulsa, on the other hand, was a great place to shoot, in their opinion. And that is why they decided to shoot Tulsa King partially in Tulsa.
Tulsa was one of the main shooting locations for this series, and various locations in the city were used. Due to the shooting of Tulsa King, some of the streets in Downtown Tulsa have been closed to traffic. Silvester Stallone was staying at The Mayo Hotel & Residences in Downtown Tulsa when he was spotted exiting the black SUV and entering the hotel.
The production crew was also seen nearby as they unpacked their gear from several trucks. Silvester Stallone is a legend when it comes to the movie industry, and there is no doubt about that. So, citizens of Tulsa’s areas where Tulsa King was shot were thrilled that they got a chance to experience those shooting moments and took as many pictures and videos to share with their friends as possible.
Even though the show’s name is Tulsa King, the show is not shot only in Tulsa, and there is a good reason for that. Tulsa is used as a shooting location, but mostly for exterior scenes as it lacks a motion picture soundstage where sets can be built and used as needed. So, the other parts were shot in Oklahoma City. Oklahoma City provides better incentives, and Prairie Surf Studios were used for most Oklahoma shootings.
It is a regular thing for movie and show producers to use a combination of real-life locations and built sets for shooting, and Tusla King is no exception. It will be fun to see Silvester Stallone in the role of an elderly mobster, and we are positive that the Tulsa King will not disappoint.
