The story is a supernatural adventure filled with humor, so you can imagine the series will be filled with ridiculous powers and abilities. But, aside from these, the world of Undead Unluck is also filled with various intriguing characters and in this article, we are actually going to tell you about one such character. Thanks to the To You, From Me manga, Anno Un became a highly popular author, but they are a very enigmatic figure. In this article, you are going to find out all you need about Anno Un.

  • Article Breakdown:
  • The character of Anno Un has been introduced to Undead Unluck as the author of the best-selling manga To You, From Me, whose role in the story is much bigger than you’d think.
  • It is later revealed that the true identity of Anno Un is actually that of Akira Kuno, a young man who is also a Negator. His ability is known as Unknown and can make him undetectable.
  • Anno Un turned out to be a creation of Akira, materialized via the G-Liner pen, which was later destroyed. Akira’s power was forced upon him by Sun.

Akira Kuno and Anno Un are one and the same person, but it is a bit more complex than that – and a true tragedy

Akira Kuno was a completely normal boy before becoming the famous writer he is now. He lived alone with his mother, as his father had died from an illness. His mother was caring and loved him a lot, and at one point, she began reading manga to him before he went to sleep. One day, he stumbled upon the G-Liner pen, which granted him omniscience, and as he returned home to draw something for his mother, he realized that he had become invisible; the pen turned him into the Negator known as Unknown.

No one could see him and he could only observe his worrying mother believed that he had disappeared. He wrote a manga, To You, From Me, and submitted it to a competition, believing that no one would see it but they did. He then realized that he could make everything he drew with the G-Liner real so he soon created the identity of Anno Un, whom he used to interact with the real world. He wanted to go see his mother as Anno Un but found out that she had also passed away. He was thus unable to speak to her again, completing a cycle of tragedy that is an important part of his story.

That is why Fuuko actually stopped him from touching the G-Liner in the 101st Loop, thus preventing the tragedy from happening. And that is his story in short; we can now continue with his powers and abilities.

Akira’s Negator ability is called Unknown, which is highly symbolic

The interesting aspect of Akira’s abilities – which we can talk about now that we have told you about the character – is that Akira had his Unknown forced upon him by Sun, the sadistic and tyrannical god of the world of Undead Unluck. This shouldn’t come as a surprise to fans of the series, as Sun is a very evil character, but Akira’s fate seems to be even crueler because it doesn’t seem to have a proper reasoning behind it. Okay, it does – Sun forced this power onto Akira because he wanted to keep the secrets of the G-Liner hidden from everyone else, and giving Akira this power helped him in that plan – but that reason is so egoistical and so sadistic that we cannot describe it as a proper reason, really.

So, what does Unknown do? Well, as the name suggests, it can make Akira completely undetectable; it actually appears as if Akira is not even there, despite being there, and it is so powerful that it even allows him to pass through others by phasing through them.

Alongside the Unknown ability, Akira also initially possessed the G-Liner pen, which allowed him to manifest his drawings, but only one at a time; this is, actually, how Anno Un was created and how Akira was able to maintain his anonymity for a while. He also had the Soul Caliber, a small orb that was actually able to take the soul out of a living body and transfer it inside of itself.
