Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is the sequel to the original Naruto manga and anime that has taken over the world. Boruto series follows the life of Naruto’s son Boruto, who faces new challenges and struggles similar to his father’s in his youth. Recent episode 220 from Boruto: Naruto Next Generations anime, shows Boruto and Naruto having a heart-to-heart after the events that previously transpired in the episode. One scene at the end of the episode, spiked speculation about what Naruto’s true intentions were. In this article, we will analyze was Naruto about to kill Boruto.

After the heartfelt conversation, a lot of fans believed that Naruto wanted to kill Boruto at that moment before Amado came with his pills. However, we do not think that is the case. This is a callback to Naruto Shippuden episode 209, where Naruto falls unconscious after a hard panic attack he experiences after finding out what happened to Sasuke, during the Finding Sasuke arc. The scene in Boruto is truly reflective of that scene in Shippuden, and in our opinion, Naruto would never kill his own son.

This article will dig deeper into this scene, so if you are interested in what are we going to say, definitely stay with us until the end of the article. Without further ado, let’s go!

Short Overview of The Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Episode 220

The aftermath of Momoshiki’s attack on Konoha Village has quite the consequences. Before Momoshiki of the Ōtsutsuki clan is beaten by Boruto, he places a Kāma mark, that takes over the host’s body and after some time, turns into a perfect Ōtsutsuki. This is a huge problem and Naruto and the rest of Boruto’s friends and family are concerned and are looking for a solution to this problem.

Naruto comes to terms with losing Kurama and its powers and the reality that if it comes to another fight against the Ōtsutsuki clan, he will be defeated. At the same time, Kawaki gives Naruto back his prosthetic arm, and Amado gives Boruto medication that weakens his Byakugan – it speeds up the Ōtsutsuki gene taking over his body.

Naruto tells Shikamaru that he wants to host another Chunin Exam to make up for the one that was ruined by Momoshiki’s attack.

Kāma mark that was bestowed on Boruto by Momoshiki before he died and put him in danger of being a host of Ōtsutsuki gene that after some time of manifesting in the host’s body, starts taking over. This situation is really tricky, since Boruto’s Byakugan is speeding the process of manifestation, and reducing his time of living. Naruto is heartbroken by all of this, and with Kurama being killed, he is in huge emotional turmoil. At the end of episode 220 of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Naruto and Boruto have a heartfelt father-son conversation where Naruto explains that regardless of his weakened state and the absence of Kurama, he will always try his best and put his body on the line to protect his children.

After that, Naruto hugs Boruto, who tells him that he is exhausted and right after, he falls asleep in his father’s arms. Now we get to the moment that everyone is talking about. Naruto hugs his son and starts to breathe pretty heavily. He lifts his shaking hand and looks at it – everyone thought that at that moment he will cast his Rasengan since that is the position his hands are usually in when using that power. During that sequence, Amado interrupts the moment and offers Naruto medication to slow the effects of the Kāma mark.

While most of the fans started speculating that Naruto was about to kill Boruto at that moment, this scene is actually a callback to Naruto Shippuden episode 209, where during a mission to find Sasuke, he hyperventilates and falls unconscious after the news surrounding the mission, Sakura’s absence and fear that Sasuke will kill her. The scene in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations directly reflects the scene since Naruto panics after everything he and his son experienced.
