Thor: Love and Thunder is the 29th movie set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Red Carpet Premiere event was held last night in Los Angeles, and therefore, some lucky individuals had a chance to see the movie before anyone else. The first reactions to the movie so far seem like another enjoyable Marvel ride is in front of us, and some are particularly praising Christian Bale, who is playing the role of the main villain Gorr, the God Butcher.
Although we still need to wait for the official reviews and ratings on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic, we are now sharing with you some of the first reactions for Thor: Love and Thunder that surfaced online.
“Thor: Love and Thunder is predictably hilarious yet unexpectedly personal and heartfelt. Christian Bale and Natalie Portman’s performances truly shine while Waititi delivers an emotional story. I think this may be my favorite Thor movie.” — Richard Nebens, The Direct
“Another classic Thor adventure! Thor: Love and Thunder is everything I wanted it to be. Big, colorful, weird Guns N’ Roses-fueled battles to go w/ a hopelessly romantic story about discovering love in unexpected places. Christian Bale & Russell Crowe are especially great. And Korg!” — Erik Davis, Fandango
“Thor: Love and Thunder has an Appetite For Destruction & laughs. It’s totally rad! Taika Waititi delivers a subversive, irreverent spectacle. Great story, stakes & character-building. Chris Hemsworth & Natalie Portman, superb. Russell Crowe & Christian Bale slip easily into the world.” — Courtney Howard, Variety
“Thor: Love and Thunder gets better when it’s not trying to desperately recapture the magic of Ragnarok. Most of the humor doesn’t land as well as it did the first time, but Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, & Christian Bale do the best with it.” — Andrew J. Salazar, Discussing Film
“Thor: Love and Thunder surpasses all expectations balancing absolutely bombastic insanity with moving character driven stories. Christian Bale is top tier and Natalie Portman is truly outstanding. Waititi may have just delivered the MCU’s best movie of Phase 4” — Caitlin Tyrrell, The Illuminerdi
“Thor: Love and Thunder is nonstop ridiculous fun! It’s hilarious and action-packed and just a totally crazy theatrical experience. The phenomenal cast does an outstanding job and this movie packs a few surprises. Definitely don’t miss this one!” — Laughing Place
“Thor: Love and Thunder is fucking great. I think instantly one of my favorite Marvel movies – probably cause it’s easily the funniest, yet still had me choked up by the end. I hope Taika Waititi never stops making Thor movies.” — Kevin Polowy, Yahoo! Entertainment
We were excited to check the movie out before the first reactions, but now it’s pretty clear that Taika Waititi brought us another successful Thor movie. The Thor franchise started in 2011 with the original movie which was mainly well received, but the sequel The Dark World is still considered one of the worst MCU movies. Waititi joined the Thor franchise in 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok, which shed entirely new light on God of Thunder, and looks like Waititi managed to bring his magic again to this fourth installment.
Starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Taika Waititi, Russell Crowe, Chris Pratt, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, and Sean Gunn, Thor: Love and Thunder is set to open in theaters worldwide on July 8, 2022.
