What happened to Annie on Attack on Titan?

And while the plot of Attack on Titan was wet with a more or less positive reception, save for the ending, the characters have always been the forte of Hajime Isayama’s great series. From the protagonists to the secondary characters, Attack on Titan has provided us with some great characters and stories, and one of them is the story of Annie Leonhart, one of the series’ most important (female) characters. But Annie’s story was a strange and curious one, which is why many fans actually wonder what happened to her in the first place. In this article, we will tell you everything you need to know about Annie Leonhart’s story in Attack on Titan.

  • Article Breakdown:
  • After Annie’s cover was blown, she engaged in a bitter fight with Eren, but before being defeated, she crystalized herself and remained in her cocoon for four years.
  • She was freed thanks to Eren, and she would end up uniting with her former enemies to stop Eren from destroying the world.

Annie Leonhart is one of the most important characters in the story

Annie Leonhart is a recruit of the 104th Training Corps and ranks fourth at the end of training. She is of medium-short height, with blond hair and blue eyes. She has a closed and asocial character, showing a certain sadistic streak even though she does not appreciate injustices. She is very skilled in hand-to-hand combat and possesses incredible strength and agility, so much so that Eren himself, impressed by her, asks her to be his teacher and teach him her techniques.

After the cadets’ graduation ceremony, she chooses to enlist in the Military Police Brigade, being among the first ten classified who could have this privilege. It turns out that she is actually the Female Titan, an anomalous specimen who chases the Survey Corps during the expedition outside the walls and exterminates Captain Levi’s team with the aim of kidnapping Eren, failing in her attempt due to the latter’s prompt reaction.

Transformed into a Titan, Annie is fourteen meters tall, has a layer of skin that covers almost her entire body, leaving her muscles exposed, and is gifted with high agility and versatility.

She can crystallize various parts of her body to defend herself or fight, creating a layer of “armor” similar to that of the Armored Titan, but of a blue-transparent color (an innovative ability given to her by Marley’s army after various experiments to enhance it). She can summon pure Titans with her scream within a limited range of action. Annie deeply hates Reiner for forcing her to kill Marco.

AoT: Does Reiner Have Split Personality?

Eren admits that thanks to her extraordinary martial skills, in a single fight, Annie is much stronger than Reiner. However, despite her great ability in crystallization, if the opponent moves at a speed greater than her reflexes, she cannot strengthen herself in time. In fact, in the clash with Levi, she is repeatedly wounded by the corporal major without any possibility of reaction. The novel Lost Girl reveals that Annie can transform just one part of her body into a titan without weakening.

After being unsealed, she unites with her former enemies and survives Eren’s terror

So, what happened to Annie later? She will finally engage in a ferocious duel against Eren in the Stohess district after her cover is blown: defeated and cornered, in order not to fall prisoner, Annie locks herself in a crystal cocoon she created and is placed under the custody of the Corps of Gendarmerie. She will remain in this state for four years until Eren, acquiring the full powers of the Founding Titan, will also destroy her cocoon. She will then join the alliance between her old comrades of the Survey Corps and the remnants of the Marleyan expeditionary force in Paradis to stop Eren from destroying the world.

They will succeed in this, as Mikasa ultimately beheaded Eren and saved the world, with Annie and the others surviving. While they never completely reconciled, they had a civil relationship and worked together in the future, even when the peace negotiations were the main topic of conversation. And this is Annie’s whole story in Attack on Titan.
