Vinland Saga is one of those rare anime gems that managed to prove its quality while being quite original and in a lot of ways different from how anime is usually perceived. Based on the critically acclaimed manga by Makoto Yukimura, Vinland Saga has been praised by critics since its debut in 2019 for its authenticity, originality, and character development. A second season of the show started airing in January 2023 in Japan but fans are wondering when the dubbed version is going to come out. In this article, we are going to tell you all that we know about the upcoming dub of the second season of Vinland Saga.

Currently, it is not known officially when the dubbed version of Vinland Saga is set to come out. The dub is definitely going to happen, but we simply don’t know when it is going to happen. Due to the fact that there are two separate dubs of the first season – the Netflix one and the Sentai Filmworks one – it is really difficult to predict when a dub might happen, but it is really a matter of time.

The rest of this article is going to bring you all the known and unknown information related to the dubbed version of the second season of Vinland Saga. You’re going to find out about its potential release date, whether there is a trailer, what the story will be about, and much more about one of the most popular anime series of the modern era.

Vinland Saga Season 2 dub release date

At this moment, Vinland Saga consists of two anime seasons, the first of which premiered on July 7, 2019, and ended on December 29, 2019, after a total of 24 episodes, and the second of which premiered in January 2023 and is currently airing. The first season adapted the first 54 chapters of the manga, reaching the second half of volume 8 of the manga, with the second season continuing after that.

Interestingly enough, and that is really not overly common in the world of anime, the first season of Vinland Saga received two dubs. Sentai Filmworks produced the first of these two dubs for Crunchyroll, which was officially released on August 31, 2021. The second dub was produced by VSI Los Angeles and released on Netflix.

The manga is currently on 26 published volumes, which means that there is more than enough material to adapt, which had fans hopeful that a second season would be announced soon after the end of the first season. But that wasn’t exactly the case. Namely, Vinland Saga was never a hit such as Demon Slayer or Jujutsu Kaisen, when newer works are concerned. The fandom is small, but the fans are pretty devoted and that is why the producers were so slow to announce any plans for future seasons of the show.

Still, on July 7, 2021, almost two years after the first season ended, it was officially confirmed that Vinland Saga would be getting a second season, which made the small fandom of the series quite happy. Save for some production and crew information, nothing else has been confirmed by the producers, the release date (or window) included. The season was ultimately released on January 10, 2023, and is currently airing, but only in Japanese with English subtitles. But what about the dub?

The English-language dub of Vinland Saga is bound to happen, that much is clear. But we still don’t know when because no one knows what the situation with the dub is. The first thing we do not know is whether there are going to be two dubs again. Fans online speculate that Sentai Filmworks might be the only one producing the dub of season two, but we have no official confirmation of that, so we might see two dubs again. As to when, this is also a thing we cannot predict, as the two original dubs were released on pretty random dates.

This is why we can only confirm that the situation with the dub is somewhat complex. We are certain that dub is going to happen – the series is simply too popular for there to not be a dub – but whether we’re going to have one or two dubs again, and when we will see (either of) them is unknown at this moment.

Vinland Saga Season 2 dub cast

And while the Japanese cast was more or less revealed before the premiere of the season, the dub cast of the Vinland Saga anime is still unknown, due to the problems we have discussed before. These problems mean that we cannot really be sure about the voices behind the dub of Vinland Saga‘s second season. The only thing we can tell you now is what the dub looked like back when Season 1 was dubbed, as some of these actors are definitely going to come back:

Vinland Saga Season 2 plot

It is currently unknown how far the second season of Vinland Saga is going to go in terms of plot and the number of adapted chapters. We’ve stated that the first season ended with Chapter 54 of the manga and that there are more than 15 volumes to adapt as of this moment. How many of them are planned for Season 2 is still a mystery, so we’ll just bring you a general overview of the plot so that you know what you can expect from the upcoming episodes.

In the year 1002, Thorfinn is six years old and lives with his family in a small settlement in Iceland. Life there with his father Thors, his mother Helga, and his older sister Ylfa is tough but carefree. His father, nicknamed the “Troll of Joms”, faked his death in a battle off Norway in order to desert from the Jomsvikings and disappeared with his wife to Iceland.

His mother is the daughter of King Sigvaldi. The only adventures bring the stories of the ridiculed Leif Eriksson, who tells of the discovery of the legendary Vinlands. But that changes when a warship pulls into port. On board is Floki, an envoy of King Sigvaldi of Jomsburg, who is blackmailing Thorfinn’s father into aiding her in the Battle of Britain.

This, a former war hero who has long renounced killing, reluctantly agrees and clears a ship to Jomsburg. He sets off with some overzealous young men from the village and is accompanied by Leif. Thorfinn is secretly hiding on board. Meanwhile, in the Faroe Islands, Floki orders the leader of a mercenary force, Askeladd, to kill Thors.

So it soon comes to a duel between Askeladd and Thors, with Thorfinn’s father being the victor. However, he still loses his life when he tries to protect that of his son. Driven only by a desire for revenge, Thorfinn joins forces with Askeladd in order to one day defeat him in a fair duel. Six years later, Vikings, including Askeladd and his troupe, invaded England under Sweyn, King of the Danes.

Thorfinn does Askeladd’s dirty work in order to earn the right to ongoing dueling. In 1013 England seems to have lost the war. Only London, under the leadership of the Jomsviking Thorkell, withstands the besiegers. After another failed attack, resulting in a fight between Thorfinn and Thorkell, the Danes retreat and King Sweyn sends his youngest son, Knut, to continue the siege, but he too fails.
