Stardew Valley: Where Is the Best Place To Sell Crops?

Stardew Valley is a game that revolves heavily around players earning constant profit through the selling of various items. Some of the items are found and scavenged, and some items like for example crops, are cultivated by the player himself. You have two options when it comes to selling your crops. You can either sell them at the general store or simply ship them using a shipping bin. While both options have pros and cons, players have been wondering, what is the best place to sell crops in Stardew Valley.
How does selling your crops via a shipping bin work?
To sell items using the shipping bin, open the shipping bin by right-clicking and placing the items you want to sell inside it. That’s pretty much it. If you place something in the shipping bin by accident, you have time until you go to sleep to retrieve it.
The only downside when it comes to selling by shipping bin is the fact that you need to wait until morning to get your stuff. You will earn exactly the same amount of money when you sell crops using the shipping bin and when you sell crops at Pierre’s general store.
The pros of selling crops via shipping bin are as follows:
- It’s convenient since you don’t have to keep track of the general store’s business hours. You can sell your crops at any time.
- You don’t have to go to the store physically; the shipping bin can be placed wherever you want it.
- Crops sold via shipping bin count in your “items shipped” statistics, which means that selling items via this method counts toward earning achievements.
- some items can only be sold in shipping bin (artifacts, for example)
Even though selling via shipping bin comes with a few pros, to be totally objective, we have to mention the cons as well. The only real downside to selling your crops this way is the fact that you get your money with delay the next morning. This doesn’t seem like such a huge downside unless you need money quickly though.
How does selling your crops in Pierre’s general store work?
To sell items in Pierre’s general store, you need to go to the store during business hours and open the trading dialogue. From there, simply click the items you wish to sell.
Selling your excess crops in a general store is the other way to sell crops. And generally, it has one big difference and some minor, inconsequential differences when compared to selling crops by shipping. The pros of selling crops at Pierre’s general store are:
- you get your money instantly. You don’t have to wait until the next morning for a payoff. The process is much quicker.
- People will often comment about buying certain items from Pierre that were cultivated by you.
- There’s a chance that some of your items will reappear in Pierre’s store at a higher price, giving you the opportunity to re-buy them. There’s a huge markup on those items, though.
And due to objectivity, it’s time we mention the cons as well. Pierre’s general store is not available to you throughout the whole day. Its working hours are 9-9 PM. This means that you will be using the shipping bin to sell anything after 9 PM if you’re in a hurry to get rid of it.
The second issue is the fact that items sold at the general store don’t count as progress toward the three shipping-related achievements.
What are the shipping achievements in Stardew Valley?
The three shipping-related achievements in Stardew Valley are Polyculture, Monoculture, and Full Shipment. Polyculture demands that you ship 15 pieces of each crop, and Monoculture demands 300 pieces of one crop. Full Shipment relates to all items since you need to ship every item on the list to earn it.
And that’s about it. As you can see, selling your crops via shipping bin is slightly better than selling your crops at Pierre’s general goods store. Even if you have to wait for money longer.
