Who Is The Black Wookiee In The Book Of Boba Fett? Black Krrsantan Explained

When episode 2 of The Book of Boba Fett was released, we were treated to a lot more new scenes and characters as the series went on. While the episode primarily explored Fett’s past when he was living with the Tusken Raiders shortly after the Sarlacc pit escape, we also got to see scenes of the current events, such as when Jabba’s twin cousins came to visit Tatooine. The Hutts carried along a black Wookiee as a bodyguard. But who is the black Wookiee in The Book of Boba Fett?
The black Wookiee in The Book of Boba Fett is named Black Krrsantan, who used to be a gladiator but now works as a mercenary employed by the Hutts. Black Krrsantan or Black K isn’t exactly new because he was introduced in the comics in 2015. He and Boba Fett also go way back.
The introduction of Black K to the story means that the crew behind The Book of Boba Fett is looking to spice things up, especially with new characters that can help things make more interesting. On top of that, Black K will prove to be someone who could become a threat to Boba Fett’s rule in Tatooine.
Who Is The Black Wookiee In The Book Of Boba Fett?
As The Book of Boba Fett gets rolling with the release of the latest episode, we have come to understand that Disney is not too shy about introducing new characters to the series, which revolves primarily around an old character that was introduced way back in the original trilogy. That said, more and more characters are introduced to the series, as The Book of Boba Fett is only going to be even more exciting. One such character is a black Wookiee.
We aren’t strangers to the Wookiee race, especially because of Chewbacca, who we met in the first trilogy. We also saw several other Wookiees in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith when Jedi Master Yoda was spending time with the Wookiees in their home planet. However, this is the first time we are seeing a black Wookiee in the franchise.
While Chewbacca may come off as scary at first because he looks tough and beastly, we came to understand that this guy is a big softie who is on the side of the good guys. Then again, this black Wookiee in The Book of Boba Fett looks like he’s an entirely different beast. But who is this black Wookiee?
The black Wookiee introduced in The Book of Boba Fett is named Black Krrsantan. While he does look like he’s just as fuzzy as Chewbacca, you will come to understand that this beast is a lot scarier than the OG Star Wars Wookiee. That is why it is important to look at who Black Krrsantan or Black K is.
Black Krrsantan Explained
When we first saw Black K in The Book of Boba Fett, we might have been surprised by the fact that Star Wars is introducing another Wookiee to the franchise. And the most surprising thing here is that, unlike the brownish Wookiees we have seen in the past, this one is black.
Of course, Black K’s introduction wasn’t really the same as Chewbacca’s first scene in the Star Wars franchise. In episode 2 of The Book of Boba Fett, we came to understand that Jabba’s twin Hutt cousins were the ones responsible for trying to get rid of him in the first episode. The reason is that they were trying to lay claim to the rule left behind by their deceased cousin, to whom Boba Fett was employed in the events of the original trilogy.
When Boba Fett told the twins that he was not going to give up his rule over Jabba’s former territory without a fight, that was when we were introduced to a scary-looking and heavily armed black Wookiee that Boba Fett called a “gladiator.” We didn’t get to see Black K in action, but there is some truth to what Fett said when he called the Wookiee a gladiator.
Black Krrsantan is like any other Wookiee in the sense that he used to live in Kashyyyk, which is the homeworld of the Wookiee race. However, Black K was someone who cared for no one other than himself. He focused too much on making money while honing his fighting skills. He was eventually exiled from the planet.
After his exile, Black K decided to work for the Xonti Brothers in their fighting pits as a gladiator. That was when the black Wookiee was able to hone his fighting skills. After that, Black K, like Boba Fett, ended up working for Jabba the Hutt as a member of his court.
The fact that Black Krrsantan also worked for Jabba is the reason why Boba Fett was not surprised when he saw the former gladiator working with Jabba’s twin cousins in The Book of Boba Fett. He was already familiar with the Wookiee and was also probably aware of the former gladiator’s fighting skills as well. However, there is more to Black K’s history.
If you noticed, Black K has a scar on his eye. The reason why he has a scar on his eye is due to the fact that he was once ordered by Jabba to hunt down Obi-Wan Kenobi, who was taking residence in Tatooine. However, because the Jedi Master was the superior fighter, the Wookiee escaped with his life and with a scar (most likely from Obi-Wan’s lightsaber) as a symbol of his defeat.
Of course, Black K also tussled with Han Solo and Chewbacca somewhere down the road in the character’s history. However, neither of the two Wookiees won the fight, as the bout between them proved to be a good showcase of Chewbacca’s fighting skills, considering that he was able to go toe-to-toe with a legendary gladiator like Black Krrsantan.
Meanwhile, Black K’s first-ever introduction to the Star Wars canon was in the first Marvel-published Star Wars comics released in 2015. He, along with Boba Fett, met up with Darth Vader following the destruction of the Death Star in A New Hope. While Fett was ordered to hunt down the one responsible for destroying the Death Star (Luke Skywalker), Black K was ordered to hunt down for one of the Emperor’s former henchmen.
Are There Other Black Wookiees?
As it stands, Black Krrsantan is the first and only black Wookie to be introduced to the Star Wars franchise. However, it is tough to say whether or not he is the only black Wookie because there might have been others of his kind in Kashyyyk. It is only that he is the only black wookiee to be shown on the screen. But that doesn’t mean that there are no other Wookiees like him hiding somewhere in the galaxy.
How Did Black Krrsantan Die?
One of the things that you should know about the current timeline of events in Black K’s life is that the events in The Book of Boba Fett form the latest chapters of his character timeline. That means that his ultimate fate in the Star Wars universe is left to be decided, as he is still very much alive in the events of The Book of Boba Fett.
Who Plays The Black Wookiee In The Book Of Boba Fett?
Right now, there is no conclusion regarding the actor that plays Black Krrsantan in The Book of Boba Fett. However, the logical conclusion based on the ending credits is that the actor named Carey Jones is the one behind the furry costume. For those who don’t know, Carey Jones is a makeup artist who once played the Tracker Predator in the 2010 Predators film. As Jones stands 6’7”, it would make sense for him to be the one playing Black K in The Book of Boba Fett.
