With RDJ’s Casting as Doom, Fans Quickly Moved On From Majors’s Kang: “Kang Who?”

Following the release of ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,’ the superhero media landscape was rocked by allegations against Jonathan Majors, who was introduced in ‘Loki’ Season 1 as Victor Timely and portrayed Kang the Conqueror in ‘Quantumania,’ the anticipated villain for the Multiversal Saga.

Jonathan Majors’ career has faced significant setbacks since his March 2023 arrest for an alleged assault of a woman he was rumored to be dating. Since then, he has been removed from several projects, lost his manager and PR team, and had numerous commercials featuring him pulled.

Throughout the process, the actor maintained his innocence, with his legal team promising to prove his clear exoneration. They initially released text messages between Majors and the alleged victim, but this move seemed to backfire, damaging his public image.

In December 2023, after a guilty verdict, Disney dismissed Majors, leading to significant changes within the franchise. Following his exit, ‘Avengers: Kang Dynasty’ was retitled simply as ‘Avengers 5,’ and the studio has reportedly started searching for a replacement or a new villain to take over Kang the Conqueror’s role.

The situation with Jonathan Majors reached a climax at this year’s SDCC when ‘Avengers 5’ was rebranded as ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ and it was announced that Robert Downey Jr. would be portraying Doctor Doom—a villain expected to replace Majors’ Kang.

While RDJ’s casting as Doom has faced some criticism, many fans are excited and eagerly anticipate his appearance in the upcoming films.

Despite a strong online fanbase advocating for Majors’ return to the MCU, most fans have moved on. The shift is largely attributed to Majors’ initial portrayal of Kang the Conqueror, which many felt was underwhelming.

Jonathan Majors delivered standout performances as He Who Remains and Victor Timely in both seasons of ‘Loki,’ with many praising his portrayals. However, ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ significantly undermined the character. Kang was never meant to face the Ant-Family and be defeated by ants, and many fans feel this diminished the sense of urgency and danger surrounding him.

Despite this, fans are ready to move on to the next big thing, as reflected in the reactions on social media.
