At the same time, five friends Billy (Simon Ginty), his girlfriend Cruz (Amy Lennox), Lita (Roxanne McKee), her boyfriend Gus (Paul Luebke) and Julian (Oliver Hoare) are planning a trip for Halloween, and the goal is a festival in West Virginia.

On the way there they almost run over Maynard who tries to kill them. The team acts in self-defense and kills him, which is followed by a sheriff who is determined to bring them to the station. But at that moment the cannibals arrive.

Traveling by car to an important conversation about his future job, young doctor Chris Flynn (D. Harrington) on a highway through West Virginia unexpectedly encounters a mile-long column caused by a severe car accident. While listening to the news on the radio about the recent disappearance of two students who were hiking in the area, Desmond decides to take the side road that leads through an uninhabited forest area.

Relaxed riding and enjoying the beautiful nature, he suddenly ran into a vehicle and a bicycle of five students who, like him, took a shortcut. Slowly recovering from a powerful collision, apparently caused by sharp spikes deliberately left on the ground, Desmond meets the attractive Jessie Burlingame (E. Dushku) and her friends, the likable Curly (E. Chriqui) and her fiancé Scott (J. Sisto). and the reckless Evan (K. Zegers) and his girlfriend Francine (L. Booth).

Deciding to continue the journey on foot with them, Desmond soon learns that Jessie had recently left her boyfriend, after which she and four best friends set off on their way to him. While Desmond, Jessie, Curly and Scott are slowly making their way through the forest, Evan and Francine decide to stay for a while and enjoy the moments together and the peace of idyllic nature.

The plot of this tense horror follows twenty-year-old Jen and five of her close friends who hike in the Appalachian Mountains in West Virginia. Despite warnings to stick to the trails, hikers veer off course – and enter a part inhabited by an unusual hidden community of residents who have lived in the mountain since the mid-1800s when they isolated themselves from the rest of the United States.

Under the leadership of the imposing John Venable (Bill Sage), they will do anything to protect themselves from outside influences. Suddenly under siege, Jen and her friends seem to have moved to a point of no return – unless Jen’s father (Matthew Modine) manages to save them in time.
