Zendaya Recalls the Moment She First Met Tom Holland, Her MCU Co-Star and Now Boyfriend: “I was worried because he’s so much shorter than me”

Every Spider-Man needs his MJ, and in the MCU, that role was filled by Zendaya, one of Hollywood’s most popular young actresses. Zendaya’s MJ stands out with a unique origin story and name, offering a fresh take on the classic character.

As it turned out, Tom Holland and Zendaya developed a real-life romance while working together, and their relationship blossomed beyond the screen.

The relationship between the two stars was officially confirmed in July 2017, revealing that they began seeing each other during the filming of Spider-Man: Homecoming. Zendaya shared details about how she first met Tom Holland in her interview with Variety:

He says when we first met it was super awkward because he went for a handshake and I went for a hug. But I don’t remember that. I thought it was cool. I was worried because he’s so much shorter than me, I was like, ‘Damn it! It’s going to be weird because I’m super tall.’ But then we ended up doing the audition sitting. So that was good.

Since they first met, Holland and Zendaya consistently emphasized in interviews and on social media that they were merely good friends. However, despite their claims of a platonic relationship, their undeniable chemistry was apparent to everyone.

We are friends. […]He’s a great dude. He’s literally one of my best friends. This past how many months we’ve had to do press tours together. There’s very few people that will understand what that’s like at 20 years old.

In 2019, their on-screen kiss in Spider-Man: Far From Home thrilled fans. By July 2021, their real-life relationship was confirmed when they were spotted kissing in a car. Since then, they’ve kept their relationship low-profile, steering clear of excessive public displays of affection while still showing support for each other on social media and at events.

As of September 2024, the couple remains together and is described as having a strong, stable relationship. We hope it continues to be just that.
