Zoey Deutch’s Latest Rom Com Just Dialed Its Way To Netflix’s Top Spot Worldwide

Romantic comedies have quietly become Netflix’s secret weapon this year, and the streamer keeps finding new ways to make audiences fall for the genre all over again. From star studded ensembles to deeply personal stories about grief and connection, the platform has leaned hard into love stories that linger long after the credits roll.

That trend continues with ‘Voicemails for Isabelle,’ the new film starring Zoey Deutch and Nick Robinson, which dropped on the platform on June 19. The story follows Jill, played by Deutch, who copes with the loss of her sister Isabelle by continuing to leave her voicemails, while Wes, an Austin real estate agent played by Robinson, ends up with her sister’s old number and falls for Jill through her messages without ever meeting her.

The film has now climbed to the very top of the charts. As of June 21, 2026, ‘Voicemails for Isabelle’ has taken the No. 1 spot in the United States, while Flixpatrol confirms it is also at the top globally. The film reportedly overtook several other titles in the process, including a true crime documentary that had been dominating the charts.

The movie specifically dethroned the true crime documentary ‘Maternal Instinct,’ which had previously held the No. 1 position, along with both ‘Percy Jackson’ films, ‘Flowers in the Attic,’ and ‘GOAT.’ Its rise also continues a pattern for Netflix, following the success of ‘Ladies First’ with Rosamund Pike and Sacha Baron Cohen, which spent two straight weeks at No. 1, and Jennifer Lopez’s ‘Office Romance’ earlier in June.

Critics and viewers alike appear to be embracing the film with genuine enthusiasm. Reviews have compared it to classics like ‘Sleepless in Seattle’ and ‘You’ve Got Mail,’ with the Rotten Tomatoes scores currently sitting at 84 percent from critics and 92 percent from audiences. Much of the praise centers on the emotional, character driven nature of the story, along with the undeniable chemistry between Deutch and Robinson.

The film comes from writer director Leah McKendrick, who also has personal investment in the project beyond the camera. McKendrick previously directed ‘Scrambled’ and wrote 2025’s ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer,’ and she also appears in ‘Voicemails for Isabelle’ as Wes’s friend Breeda. Speaking about her leading man’s ability to make a potentially tricky character work, McKendrick told Netflix’s Tudum that Wes could easily have come across as callous or manipulative in the wrong hands, but that concern faded as soon as Nick Robinson was cast, crediting his genuine sensitivity both on and off screen.

The cast surrounding Deutch and Robinson is stacked with familiar faces rounding out the story’s world. Nick Offerman, Lukas Gage, and Harry Shum Jr. all feature prominently alongside Ciara Bravo, who plays Isabelle. With the film now sitting at the top of charts both domestically and globally, it looks poised to become one of the platform’s defining summer romances.

Given how quickly this one climbed the charts, are you team Jill and Wes, or do you think their voicemail romance moved a little too fast?
