‘We Have a Ghost’ Ending Explained: Why Is Ernest Stuck in the House?
Welcome to the Ending Explained for We Have a Ghost, a new Netflix original that arrives on the streaming service this weekend. The film stars Anthony Mackie and David Harbour, who come straight from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We also have main roles for Jahi Di’Allo Wilson, Isabella Russo, and Tig Notaro. The film sits pleasantly inside the family film genre. This might not be the most exciting film ever, but it had the potential to be quite endearing and funny. Sadly, it doesn’t achieve any of this.
The writing really hurts the entire production. The script and the direction really have a hard time creating characters you can root for. Wilson’s Kevin, our main character, is full of hate and disdain for everything happening around him. Even when he meets a real-life ghost, whom he makes friends with, his attitude is one of annoyance. The rest of the family is equally guilty. It is not an exaggeration to say this could be one of the most dysfunctional families in recent memory. The film is also too long, by at least half an hour. Wrap it up!

Why Is Ernest Stuck In The House?
The film begins with the introduction of the Presley family. They have bought a house that is hunted. However, the real estate agent fails to mention this issue when selling the house. The family seems to be in a strained situation. The mother speaks about how broke they are, while the father, Frank, tries to be optimistic, but no one buys it. Our main character, Kevin, just hates his life. He clearly hates his father, and brother, while he is indifferent toward his mother. In conclusion, Kevin is a walking wet towel.
While exploring the house, Kevin finds the attic. He begins to sing, as music is the only thing he seems to like. At that moment, the ghost of a man in a bowling shirt appears in front of him, trying to scare him. Kevin records everything on his phone and just laughs at the ghost, who disappears. Kevin tries to communicate once again later and explains to the ghost that his life is horrible, so he won’t be able to get scared. The ghost gives up trying to scare Kevin. They introduced themselves and shook hands. Kevin names the ghost Ernest because that is the name written on his shirt.

Kevin’s annoying older brother finds the video on Kevin’s phone and shows it to their dad. They decide to upload it to YouTube. Kevin is angry that his father and brother are trying to use Ernest to gain views on YouTube and make money. The video becomes trendy, and soon the entire family becomes famous for living with a real-life ghost. Frank starts giving interviews, getting sponsors, and much more. It is clear that Frank knows he is a bad person, but he is still trying to use the ghost trend to help himself and his family.
Meanwhile, Kevin meets her neighbor, Joy, at school. She is the perfect pixie girl, and Kevin starts developing feelings for her. She is also an expert hacker and begins investigating to discover who Ernest is. She discovers that there is no one with the name Ernest registered as living in the same house as Kevin. This means that Ernest was not the owner, and he could be there for some other reason. Sadly, Ernest doesn’t remember anything about his past and cannot talk either.
Why Is Ernest Dead In We Have A Ghost?
As Ernest’s fame continues to grow, thanks to the videos the family uploads online, they receive the opportunity to get an interview with a very famous TV anchor. However, as a joke, Ernest arrives in front of the cameras and just begins to scare everyone. The entire production team leaves the house screaming, and the interview is canceled. Kevin wants to find out who Ernest really is to help him get to the afterlife. Kevin’s father wants to maintain Ernest in the house so he can keep making money, thanks to him.
Joy discovers something very important in the meantime. He discovers that the person who owned the house for the longest time before Kevin’s family was Scheller. They go to visit him, and the old man remembers Ernest. However, Scheller clarifies that the shirt Earnest is using is his and that Ernest’s real name is actually Randy. Scheller tells how Randy was married and that his wife Evelyn died from complications during the birth of their daughter, June. Scheller says Randy abandoned June with them and never came back.

Kevin finds the story quite suspicious. He cannot believe Randy would do something like that. Meanwhile, the CIA is looking to capture Randy, as they have been investigating paranormal activity for decades and now have the perfect specimen to continue the research. Kevin, Joy, and Randy escape Scheller’s house but are captured. However, in the end, the research team leader realizes that Randy is now dangerous and needs to cross to the other side to be at peace.
As the movie ends, the truth about what happened with Randy gets revealed. Scheller goes to Kevin’s house and tries to kill him. Scheller reveals that his wife, Ramona, couldn’t have kids. So, when her sister, Randy’s wife, died, Ramona saw the chance to keep Randy’s daughter as her own. Scheller would kill Randy, and Ramona would finally have the daughter she always wanted. Randy returns and saves Kevin from Scheller, and he finally remembers what happened to him.
The movie ends with Randy saying goodbye to the daughter he didn’t see grow up, June. Finally, now that he is sure his daughter is safe, Randy departs from this world into the next one. Kevin also reconciles with his father and begins a relationship with Joy.
